Best carrier for BFing?

What do you think the best carrier for bf-ing is?  I never nursed Tucker in a carrier and I'm not sure the one we have- a Mai Tei- will work the best for nursing an infant (it miiiight, but I think there are probably better ones out there).  I feel like I will probably have this new kid in the carrier 24/7 while I'm chasing the wild older brother around so lots of nursing going on in there.

FWIW, I did not love the Ergo that we bought when Tuck was little so I doubt I will buy another one.

  • I vote for the ring sling as well. I have heard it is really easy to nurse in.  My doula loves the Moby and recommended nursing in that.  It was such a PITA to put on that I never even tried to nurse in it.

  • I would say wraps and slings are easier than upright hook carriers. Check and see if there are any baby wearing groups near you where you can try some on. Lots of times cloth diaper stores that sell them will let you try them before purchase, and some even hold group meetings in store. GL!

  • I nursed her in the ergo and it worked great for us.  I like that it has that hood to add a bit of privacy too.  I didn't nurse her in a carrier until she was about 6 months though.

I have heard that slings work great for nursing too.

There are lots of videos on youtube on different carriers and how to breastfeed with them.  So maybe take a look at some of those to get an idea of what might work for you.

I have nursed in both the ergo and Moby. I like both- the Moby I used mostly around the house because of how difficult it is to get on, but how snuggly it is. The ergo is awesome for in public because of the privacy flap. I nursed DS while playing mini golf and nobody even knew! But this was when he was close to a year. I will definitely try earlier this next time around.

  • Thanks for posting this - I'm sure the first 3m of DS2's life will also be spent in a wrap!

This might sound weird, but I never figured out how to nurse using a carrier! I have really small boobs and there was just no way they would reach right? How do you all do it discretely?
