F/U Developmental Eval Scheduled (Potential ASD dx)

D's f/u developmental eval is scheduled. I'm both nervous and excited for it, mostly nervous. It will be good to see a professional note that he's made improvements since June (if you'd told me then he'd be doing half what he does now I'd have never believed it), and I'm curious what she will have for thoughts and recommendations for him.

The nerves are because this may be when he gets diagnosed...be it with autism or whatever she thinks is going on. Ultimately it is what it is and we'll still love him to bits and do everything we can for him...but facing a dx with DH not there for support will be hard.

  • I can understand the mixed feelings. I'm sorry your H won't be there for support.
Please let us know how it goes!

For me/us the dx process is probably the most mentally exhausting - all questions/evaluations and weeks or months before an answer...ugh!  I promise you though, that when you get to the end of the evaluation process you will sleep better (and if you're like me) you'll also worry more how you child's future will/will not be effected by the dx.

Remember, this is your child's journey.  IMO if at least one of the family members is committed physically and emotionally to the help of child needs (therapy wise, etc.) this is better than having none.  Finding a support group too will help you find the support you need, emotionally even though your DH isn't present.
