Your multiples complications

I don't know if we've ever done a full on poll about what sorts of complications our MoMs experienced with pregnancy all in one thread before, but the doctor warnings article inspired a post! So ladies (who are comfortable answering) which, if any, complications did you have?

With my twins my only complication was a 'late preterm' delivery at 35 weeks. They weighed 6lbs each and came home with me so I don't really consider it an enormous deal.

My triplets I had no complications during the pregnancy. Obviously I had a lot of appts and monitoring but my cervix was a rockstar and I had no problems at all. No bed rest, I walked into hospital at 32 weeks in labor. So yeah, my only triplet pregnancy complication was a 32 week delivery. They were all about 5lbs each.

I consider myself very, very lucky.
Thread hijack here... HEY!! I didn't know you were expecting again! Congratulations!!!!

OP, my PTL was part of my history, but it did start much sooner with my twins, so I guess that counts?

    Interesting poll! Thanks!

*GD and put on insulin by MFM today. Not caused by food (barely can eat), but bc of PCOS and twins. Fun.
*Elevated BP that will inevitably turn to pre E but not there yet.
*eccentric cord insertion but no big deal, just monitoring.
    * cervix is shortening but still in a great range!
    * PTL is inevitable bc I have lots of ctx and always go into PTL w singletons lol
    * waiting to see if I will be DX again with Cholestasis like I was w two of my singletons.
  • Perfect pregnancy, but I got a double whammy at delivery.

  • Please add "I just want to see results" to these things. It's a good question and the rest of us want to see the results too without messing up the survey.

  • I had multiple.  PPROM, premature delivery at 33w4d, retained placenta (placenta accreta), hemorrhage during placenta removal, and some missed placenta resulting in a major hemorrhage 18 days later that required an emergency D&C.  But we all survived!

  • I'd be really curious to know how many women had placental abruptions like I did. I wonder if it's more common in multiple births which I unfortunately think is the case.

  • PTL, IUGR and cord flow issues
  • My complication wasn't discovered until after they were born. My daughter had IUGR and it became quite severe due to my MFM's inability to read an ultrasound and treat accordingly. My twins were born at 37w6d, but would have been delivered earlier had I been properly diagnosed with IUGR.

  • I voted for TTTS, even though it was never officially diagnosed. But we had monitoring for a growth discordance from 14 weeks on, and that was the reason for their early delivery (not too early, but still "late preterm").
     image
  • I voted "none" (true so far) to see the results, but am 33 weeks and just waiting for these guys to make their grand entrance. Hopefully it will still be "none" and our c-section goes smoothly with no complications and these guys are nice and big, and healthy.

  • IUGR stands for intra uterine growth "restriction" they try not to use "retardation" anymore. Just what my doctors told me. I picked other because this poll did not include "Unequal Placeta Sharing" which is different than TTTS. We also have a case of "Absent End Diastolic Flow" which is causing a major discordance between our modi girls. Currently hospitalized for the next 6 weeks for this complication. Also placenta previa I guess I could have picked "multiple conditions" but "other" seemed just as appropriate.
  • My only complication was bed rest from 28 weeks to delivery at 32w5d b/c they were momo. So , they monitored for cord compression and entanglement. Really, we were extremely lucky and were told to expect WAY more complications that we actually had.

Sorry to hear about that, chica. I forget, how far along are you? I'll be praying for you that your hospital stay is uneventful and that you deliver two healthy girls! (and for peace of mind in the meantime!)

  • I chose "multiple," but in my case that meant both GD and a terrible case of PUPPPs.
