Severe Headache after Pregnancy (STM question maybe)

Hello All,

I have had a severe headache since I've had my LO 2 weeks ago.  She was about 11 days early as I developed preeclampsia at 38 weeks.  So I did have headaches prior to delivery, but now they seem more severe.  Not sure what is going on, but nothing helps.  I have tried Tylenol, aspirin... nothing seems to help.  Any idea what it could be?  I read it could be a "spinal headache" as I had a C-section... other things I've read said it could be postpartum preeclampsia that could last up to six weeks.... I have my 2 week check up tomorrow, and plan to let me OB know what has been going on.. just wanted to see if any of you have experienced this before.

  • It could be a migraine as a result of the hormones going crazy. I've had them terribly for the last few weeks (I'm currently 6 weeks pp). I needed my normal migraine medication to get rid of them.

  • I had a nasty headache starting a couple days after my second c section.  They'll probably ask you if it's worse when you change positions (which is more indicative of a spinal fluid leak).  Mine wasn't, it was just bad all the time so they ruled it out and after checking my BP, they just had me keep taking ibuprofen and making sure to drink LOTS of water.

  • I second the spinal leak. The time table fits.
Do you get relief from medicine?

This.  I had them for a while after my RCS.  My LO's 3 months old, and I still get the occasional one.  Call your OB.  Mine gave me a RX to take to help.  It was one that wouldn't make me sleepy, so I could care for LO.  That was one of my biggest concerns.
