High-Risk Pregnancy

Apidra and pregnancy?

Has anyone taken apidra during their pregnancy?  I currently take it (on an insulin pump) but doing some research I've learned that humalog may be safer.  I'm not currently pregnant and was just wondering if it's worth switching over to humalog before pregnancy or if other women have had successful healthy pregnancies while on Apidra?  I really like it and feel that it's helped me gain even better blood glucose control.

Thanks!

Re: Apidra and pregnancy?

  • I take apidra on a pump now and am pregnant. I also took it with my last pregnancy, and although I did loose my twins due to PTL and IC there wasn't anything to indicate a problem with it.

  • I have a 5 month old baby boy and used Apidra throughout my entire pregnancy.  I did not have any issues with it.  One thing I was told, however, is that the hospital that I delivered at does not have Apidra.  Long story short -- they did get some vials for me but I wound up keeping my pump on the entire delivery (c-section) and also just used my own insulin/pump supplies while in the hospital so it didn't matter.

  • Thank you for the responses.

@ajsweeton - I am so sorry for your loss.  I wish you the best for the rest of your pregnancy!

@emyloup - I am hoping that I can rock my pump during delivery as well.  Glad to hear that your little boy is happy and healthy!
