C-sections

How long was your hospital stay?

With DD I stayed 4 days but mostly by choice. I don't really want to stay that long this time. I know it all depends on a few different things but how long was your stay? I tried searching this but the bump search hates me and gives me totally random results lol.

Re: How long was your hospital stay?

  • Just under 48 hours each time. My OB would have been fine with me staying another day, but I'd rather be at home where I can sleep.

  • My OB told me this time, I can leave as early as Wednesday and as late as Friday. We'll see how I'm feeling. My RCS is Monday.

First time 5 days, the second I was there two nights and left by noon on that last morning.

    Exactly this for me, too.
  • 4 nights with the first, 3 with the next 2.
  • It depends on your insurance company & doctor. I called my insurance company to double check what they covered first.. And she had said whatever the doctor feels necessary. (She said most insurance companies say that but I wanted to be sure) with that being said I delivered (unplanned) c section at 5:58p Wednesday and I went home Sunday afternoon. I could have stayed until Monday if I wanted too but went home.

  • I was there for 4 days. I was induced early Friday morning and my daughter was born in the evening on Friday night. I waited all day to go home that Monday. I think I was finally discharged around 3 pm.
  • Thanks everyone! Really hoping the longest I have to stay this time is only 3 days. We'll see what happens lol.
  • i had her thursday night and was out before noon on saturday
  • Had my c-section late on Sunday and left early on Thursday!

  • It varied, sort of.

#1: 4 nights, because LO was in the NICU for three days and they had me room in with her on the last night.

#2 & #3: 2 nights / 48 hours. Left with babies still in NICU (for 5 and 11 days, respectively).

#4: Was emergency c/s at 1 am, stayed in hospital for 36 hours ("1 night" technically). Left with baby in NICU for 27 days.

  • With DD, four days (more like five because I had her early in the morning).  With DS, two days.  I wish I had stayed three with him because I think I overdid it once I got home, resulting in a day of awful back pain, but I felt okay when I was discharged.

  • I stayed 3 nights.  My c/s was not until 3 pm, then I had bleeding in recovery, so for the next 2 days I was on something every 6 hours to make my uterus contract, and I wasn't really ready to go home.  Morning of the 3rd day post-section, I felt great!
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • 2 nights. They would have let me stay another night if I wasn't comfortable going home.

  • With my first, I had my c-section on Sunday afternoon and went home Wednesday morning, so 3 nights. They told me I could stay another night if I had wanted to, but I was pretty ready to get home by that point (I'd been induced on Saturday morning, so I'd been there plenty long enough!)

We'll see with this one. I definitely don't want to be there longer than 3 nights if it's not necessary, since DS will be at home this time.

  • 5 days if you count the day I delivered. My twins were in the nicu and we lived out oftown so they let me stay the Max amount of time. I had no complications so it was really medically unnecessary.
  • 5 nights with my first (It was an unplanned section) and 2 nights with my twins (planned section).

  • I feel like I was in the hospital for a minimum amount, compared to all these responses! Wow.

I was only there for the night I delivered, and then a full day and night after. Gave birth on Nov. 17th and was discharged the 19th.

  • DS was born at 11:10 pm on Saturday, and we were discharged from the hospital on Monday afternoon. I'm only planning on staying one night with this baby. I think the average length of stay is 2 nights for a natural birth and 4 for a C-section.
  • 1st one 72 hrs, my blood pressure spiked so I had to go on a med which I needed to be monitor with, 2nd 48hrs - according to the dr I had to be there for exactly 2 days and that I was, with the 3rd just over 36 hrs It was awesome, I had him at 6:21 pm on a Saturday and was home by 8:30 on Monday. All were C-Sections!

  • My first C/S was a 4 day stay, My 2nd C/S was 2 days although my doc would've suggested 3 days if I wasn't just SO ready to be home in my bed! And the same 2 day stay instead of 3 days with my 3rd C/S
  • with both kids I stayed 5 days

  • I was induced on Friday morning, had my c-section friday afternoon and went home on Tuesday afternoon.  No complications or anything, I could have gone home on Monday if I wanted to but my doctor urged me to stay one more day so that he could remove my staples before I left instead of making me come to the office the following day to have them removed.

  • My first was unplanned. I had the section Thursday evening and was released on Sunday. My second was planned, and I was in the hospital from Wednesday morning until Friday afternoon. I had the option to stay another day if I wanted to. So three nights with the first, two nights with the second. I kind of wished I had stayed the extra night, so I could have gone through the cluster feeding in the hospital. I was pretty comfortable nursing in the adjustable hospital bed.
