ultrasounds not covered by insurance?

I have BCBS and maternity coverage, but I am still responsible for a portion of the costs of ultrasounds. I was told by my doctors office that the state of Florida does not include ultrasounds in maternity care. I called BCBS to ask and they also said that they are not covered. Has anyone else here in Florida run into this? I expected at least two of them to be covered.

Re: ultrasounds not covered by insurance?

  • I have BCBS but was AMA and diabetic.  I had several ultrasounds due to those issues, but even if I hadn't, the 12 week and anatomy scan were both supposed to be covered.  It definitely depends on your particular insurance and also depends on how your doctor codes things too.

  • Turns out that they are covered after the deductible is met, basically they are not considered part of the global maternity coverage. So I pay in full before the deductible, and 20% after it is met. Good thong we planned ahead for things like this.
