My 2 month LO has a Subglottic Hemangioma (the tumor was growing in her trachea, blocking 85% of her airway). Dr said these are very common on the skin and will grow in size before it stops growing after children are around 1 to 5 years of age. But my LO's obviously had to be treated as an emergency since it was growing in airway.
DS has one on the back of his head. Pedi said they can grow for up to a year with the most growth usually within the first six months. After a year they normally start to decrease in size and are typically gone completely by the time the child is 3 or 4.
Our pedi actually told us to take a puncture of it as parents end up forgetting exactly where is was once it goes away. DS' has gotten very big and raised, all very normal.

Our pedi mentioned laser removal because it's on dd's face. Dermatologist said not until kindergarten. I just wondered if anyone had experience with removal at a very young age. It's obviously not an energency, but we would like it removed.
My 5 year old had one on her upper stomach. Came out a few weeks after birth and got big and raised up (about the size of silver dollar) and then started breaking up over the years. It is hardly there now. Not completely gone, but almost.
DD has one on her arm. It is pretty large and red right now but our pedi is monitoring it and said it looks normal and will fade. She did mention that they are more serious if over a major organ or on the face. I don't blame you for wanting to remove it but I would follow your specialist's advice. It may not be worth removing if it will fade on its own by kindergarten anyway. Get a second opinion if you are not sure.
DS1 has one, although I never noticed it until he was about 2 1/2 months old because it suddenly grew into a bump about the diameter on a quarter. It stayed that way for awhile and eventually went down to a small red spot that depending on weather changes may grow a little every now and then, he's 8 now.
