Project Get Riley Into Crib

Let me explain how god awful this crib thing is for me. I have a tired baby. I get her white noise, I get her all swaddled up and I nurse her. She falls asleep on me for 15 minutes (not surprisingly drowsy but awake does not work) and I stand up with a sleeping baby. The second I put her down the eyes pop open and she's screaming. Like someone is killing me screaming. This screaming goes on if I rub her belly, if I pick her up and cuddle her, and even if I nurse her. I then console a screaming baby for a half an hour. She then may sleep for a half an hour or she may scream for 1.5 hours. By this time I want to gauge my eyes out with a cocktail spoon. And oh yeah, any activity I want to do that day goes to shit thanks to our disrupted nap schedule. Rinse and repeat anytime we try anything but sleeping on me.

And my confession: On these days I would give Riley to any stranger passing by or leave her to fend for herself in the jungle.

    It FUCKING sucks.

I've been there. I know. I'm so sorry. Try the smell & warmth thing. Honestly, your DD doesn't sound ready for the crib. I'd give her what she needs. Day care will figure it out.

  • Thanks again ladies! I think we'll put the crib mattress on the floor tomorrow and sleep there together. We'll see how that goes! I want to get her sleeping flat as she'll be in a PNP for two weeks at Christmas (still in room with us).

  • I have no advice. My kid naps while I wear him or hold him, which basically means he doesn't nap at DC.

He always slept at might in the rnp. The transition was rough bc he woke a lot, but it honestly was only 3 nights of terrible sleep and we just stuck with it.

Oh and the times I have had success is getting him to nap in a rnp or crib, I give him a bottle while he in laying down in the rnp. He sucks his way to sleep. That way, I don't have to deal with the transition from nursing to being in the rnp. Any other time he naps, he just gets a pacifier to suck on before naps so it's like an extra treat.

  • No advice here as Allison had always been a crib sleeper. I agree with pp not to worry about daycare. They will figure it out and will probably be able to offer you suggestions.

Allison started sleeping so much better when she started daycare because she was so tired from all the things she was doing.

  • So many awesome ideas!! I'm gonna steal some and see if they help with longer periods of sleep! Vinny slept in the crib at DC before he slept in his own crib. They put him down and stroke the side of his face and he is out. I watched them do it. When I try the same thing...no go. He likes mommy rocking him or nursing him to sleep which I do then put him in the crib and he is fine.
Like @primrosemomma said she just wants to be close to her momma :) but I wouldn't worry about DC. Just make sure they do not use CIO.

  • I am stealing all these great tips. I agree with PPs not to stress about DC. Liam has slept in a crib at DC since 10 weeks and it's a no go here! He's been a nap ninja as well and will only do nights in his RnP. However last night I caught him face down from rolling over in it so we r going cold turkey on the crib tonight. I will let u know what (if anything) works for us and if we discover new tips and hope things get easier with your little one! She's so cute!

  • I am at work so I don't have time right this second to read the previous posts (will later) but have you tried laying LO down on their side? It for some reason helped us. It was the magic fix.

So far the naps in the crib have been successful today - the savior is a security blanket I bought ages ago and never had him sleep with before. He lost his shit when I put him down, I handed him the blanket (just a small a&a security blanket) he grabbed it rolled over and crashed. Worth a shot?

ETA that he had been playing with the security blanket over the past few days. Don't know if that makes a difference.
