Bruise tooth?

Little milos fell about a month ago, and hit his mouth while he was crawling. I wiped off the blood, and was freaking out, but it seemed ok at the time. A couple weeks later I noticed his top right tooth is a little duller looking in the middle than the others.

I'm wondering if he bruised his tooth, and if this is permanent, or will effect the new tooth. I've been reading up on bruised teeth and it doesn't seem like there's much you CAN do, I'm so sad :(

I watch him ever so carefully, but his face just always ends up smashing into the floor somehow.
Anyone else have this problem?

Man, I just wanna feel better about this gahhhh

Re: Bruise tooth?

  • i have never heard of a bruised tooth so cant speak to that but he could have damaged a nerve, in which case the tooth would die. its not a huge deal at this stage given that its only a baby tooth, which will fall out eventually but would bring him to a dentist to make sure there is no damage done to the nerve (dont panic...this happens fairly often even in adults and can be mended!)

DS is such a bruiser. he always seems to fall back and his hit head and it never bothers him. i catch him as best as i can but cant always be right on top of him. so sad! but he doesnt care.

  • My cousin did that as a boy. Essentially, because baby teeth don't really have roots, his tooth died and was grayish until it fell out. I think it was the first tooth he lost but he was like five or something and the adult tooth came it normal. It wasn't overly noticeable but if you were looking you could see it.

  • Yep, my 5 year old bruised his tooth 2 years ago.  It was pretty gray for a while, but has actually gotten whiter in the past year.  Dentist did an xray and said the roots were fine.  You can see him in my siggy pic, not sure if you can even tell anymore...

  • Yes. Alyce (my almost 7yr old) fell and chipped one of her front teeth at 18mo. It bruised and turned gray for about six mo. She did not lose the tooth, and the colour eventually subsided.

  • I'll add my cousin damaged his tooth at like 18 months and it didn't fall out until he was in like first grade so regular age. His tooth did stay gray though. Hopes your lo gets better soon!

  • Thanks ya! I'm sure he's fine. I just worry too much

He's so darn cute I'm realizing the tooth won't make a big difference even if it does stay grayish. As long as it doesn't stay smaller than the others as they grow or anything overly noticable like that haha.
