LeapPad2?

Who has one for their kid(s)?  Aiden (3.5) has really started getting into using my old itouch so I think he'd like this but the game cartridges/apps on some of the more interesting things are pricey.  I don't want to waste money on filling his playroom with more cluttery stuff that he loses track of and then interest goes out the window.

Re: LeapPad2?

  • When we were looking for something for my DS I decided against the Leap pad because you have to keep buying their software which is expensive.

We got my DS a Kurio Android Tabloid.  It is an actual android tablet made specifically for kids.  It comes with a ton of pre-loaded software and there is a lot more you can download for free from the android store.  It also has parental controls and a drop safe bumper.  My DS loves his.

We got my son a LP2 for his birthday last year. It didn't even last a year before the touch screen stopped working. The cartridges are expensive. It was slow moving betweens apps/home screen. I just really didn't like it.

We got him a Tabeo for Christmas. I opened it up a couple nights ago to test it out. They told us in the store that you could download droid apps to it, which wasn't exactly true. You can, but you have to first download the Amazon app store. Now that I've downloaded the Amazon app store, I can download apps like Netflix, Youtube, Disney Jr stuff, etc. I really like the Tabeo app store. Lots of educational stuff for kids his age, and everything is either free or just a few dollars.

    Edited for clarity.

  • Thanks @MrsJakes and @azzberry  I'm swayed by the simplest shit.  The Leap Pad has a Rescue Bots game that DS would flip his shit over but the Tabeo has a SpiderMan cover!  Equal shit flipping, I think.  Decisions, decisions :)

  • The thing I liked about the Tabeo over the Kurio is that it has the Tabeo app store which is geared to little kids. I've downloaded him a math app and a state/capitals app both for free. I think the Kurio has the Google Play app store already on it (where I had to download the Amazon app store), but no dedicated kids app store. Other than that, I think they are basically the same.

  • I like the Leap Pad 2 a lot. You can re-calibrate the screen when it freezes, I just Google'd instructions.

My IL's got it for DS on his birthday, and it came with a free download, so we got a movie ("The Letter Factory") and he freaking loves it. You can take pictures, video, draw, paint, trace letters, listen to music, etc. and it has a ton of memory.

If you don't wanna buy the cartridges you can download movies/video/songs from the website. They're anywhere from $5 - $20. Last night they had a code LFCYBER which is 40% off.

    Jeez. I swear I don't work there. ;)
