Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Transitioning from RNP to Bassinet

XP from 0-3 months as I thought you all might have more experience here with your LOs

Hi everyone! I have a 12 day old baby girl who has been sleeping for 2-3 hour stretches in the Rock N Play at night. At yesterday's pedi appt, the doctor told us we real should transition her to a flat surface. My intention had always been for her to sleep in the bassinet of her Pack n play but after a very sleepless first night, we put her in the RNP. Any tips or suggestions on how to make the switch? TIA!

  • Do what works! Go with your gut on this. Pedis don't always have all the answers. Our LO refused to sleep flat until very recently. The rock n play was our sanity saver.

This! Our girls slept in the rnp's from day 1 until last night. I was so scared of the crib transition we had tried it a month ago and gave up after a really bad night. Last night they did great and I think it's because they were ready for it, started to get cramped in the rock and play. I would stick with what works and worry about transitioning later.

  • Just like pp's said...do what works for you and your family!!! DS is 4 months today and within the last couple of weeks we have started to transition him from his RNP to his crib. We tried it a couple of months ago and it didn't work well, but like PP said he is now ready for it. If it wasn't for the RNP for the last few months I don't know if anyone at our house would have been able to sleep!

  • My little one didnt sleep flat until just after her 3 month birthday. I want to say it was 4 days before she turned 13 weeks old. I was having such anxiety about her never being able to sleep anywhere but her RNP but she just needed it for comfort and until she was ready. I started putting her flat for naps only around 10 weeks but still kept her in her RNP for night time sleep. One night she just stopped sleeping soundly in her RNP so I decided to put her in her crib that night and she's been there since. She sleeps great now! Just takes time ❤️
  • Same as PPs. Just last night LO rolled over in the RnP so it's officially donezo in this house - put him in the crib this AM for his first nap and he's been sleeping for over an hour! Hoping he is just ready now. He's 5 mos btw. And I never bothered telling the pedi he was sleeping in it cause I knew she would tell me to move him sooner.
