Transitioning out of Rock N Play to bassinet

Hi everyone! I have a 12 day old baby girl who has been sleeping for 2-3 hour stretches in the Rock N Play at night. At yesterday's pedi appt, the doctor told us we real should transition her to a flat surface. My intention had always been for her to sleep in the bassinet of her Pack n play but after a very sleepless first night, we put her in the RNP. Any tips or suggestions on how to make the switch? TIA!

Re: Transitioning out of Rock N Play to bassinet

  • My LO is 2 months old - we just transitioned her from the rnp. I had tried in the past to transition her to the bassinet in the pnp but I think the size freaked her out - she was extra squirmy. So instead we bought the summer infant sleeper - it's like a small basket with mesh sides, I think it's technically a cosleeper for the bed. I put it in the bassinet next to our bed. She sleeps really well in it - I think because it's smaller it feels a bit more secure to her. Hope that helps!

  • My DS slept in the RNP quite a bit early on.  I think he liked it b/c it was more snug and he was cradled, rather than the flat surface of the mini crib.  I also liked it b/c I think it helped limit his reflux.  I didn't want it to be a permanent arrangement however, so I started putting him in the mini crib when he was especially tired or already asleep and he didn't put up a fight and has more or less gotten used to it.  These days, he sleeps in the mini crib every night but occasionally naps in the RNP.
