question for crafters - felt not sticking (NBR)

Crafters I need your help!

Last year, I made a felt Christmas tree for DD. Similar to this:

I struggled last year with getting it to stick and am already struggling with it again this year  - I can't get the ornaments to stick to the tree (felt on felt) and I can't get the tree to stay up on the wall.

I have been googling it and I think I need to make the tree stickier by washing it? And if that doesn't work, I will buy flannel and make a new tree. Then I need to use command strips to get it to stick to the wall. How does that sound? Any other suggestions?

  • If you have to, you can put a small piece of velcro on the back of your ornaments and such, and that will help.  Not really sure beyond that.  You can get velcro that is sticky on the back, so no sewing required.

  • I agree with @kschref's suggestion of velcro.

Are you trying to get the felt to stick on its own without any type of adhesive? Because yeah, that's probably not going to happen. Not for more than a couple of minutes anyway.

Good idea! I will try that.

Yes I am trying to get the felt to stick to felt without any type of adhesive. I know it's possible because I have seen the library and other places do it that way, but I am starting to think it's magic - or a different type of felt. Since I am all out of magic, I will just try the velcro.

I know what you're talking about, but in those places, it's not felt sticking to the same kind of felt. (ie, not a piece of regular felt sticking to itself) The surface used to stick them onto is slightly different, similar to a weak velcro.

I knew it! I knew it had to be something different. The secrets out now  ;)

  • I have one of the felt trees that I made last year for my Kindergarten class.  I used command strips to hang it on the wall and if I pressed hard enough, the felt ornaments stick to the felt tree.  I am hoping they still stick this year!
