C-sections

Keloid after c-section

I had a c-section at 2 am after 40 hours of labor with DS1 and got whatever doctor was on call.  She used staples to close me up and the outer edges of my scar look fine but the middle inch of it formed a keloid, which caused me a lot of pain and discomfort over the past 2 years.  I had never had a keloid before but now the other two times I have gotten stitches since my c-section, I had keloids form as well.  Unless the stars align perfectly, I will probably have a scheduled c-section with my second.  I am going to go with a different doctor who is a better surgeon and does internal stitches.  He will cut out my old scar but I'm terrified of getting another keloid.  I will use the c-section scar strips but I was wondering if there are any surgical techniques you have heard of that help to prevent them or any other treatments I can do or any aids to buy.

Did anyone have a keloid with one c-section and then not keloid after another?  Was anything done differently?

I just had my 2nd cs 4 weeks ago. I had a keloid with my 1st and while my steri strips are still on now, I can tell I'm going to have another.

I had pain with the 1st keloid also so a few months after it had healed well, I went to a dermatologist and they injected it with some medicine (can't remember the name now). It made the keloid completely flat though and lessened the pain by a lot.

My ob told me he cut out the old one and tried to prevent one this past time but it looks like it probably happened anyways which makes me wonder if that's just how my skin is even though I've never had one anywhere else. Maybe genetics? Idk.

ETA: I did have staples both times.

  • I developed a keloid after my 1st c-section and my doctor used staples.  However, I also scarred badly inside.  This time during my 2nd c-section (1 week 5 days ago) my doctor removed my old scar on the outside to create only 1 scar hoping it not to form a keloid.  However, since I scarred badly inside from the 1st one I have a pooch where the internal sewing was done.  This time it hurts alot more but either way pooch and.or keloid doesn't really matter as this is my last c-section and pregnancy.  This time my doctor used stitches for the inside and dermabond on the outer layer.
