How long do you try a new food before moving on?

Is it 3 days, or 4?

Thanks!

  • My plan is 4-5 days.

  • Her pedi said 3-5 so I just wait 4.

  • I haven't really been waiting... Sometimes we try a new food every day, sometimes we wait a bit...

  • I've been trying something new every 3 daysish.
  • I had been waiting a week but she seems ok with everything so I have cut if back to 4.

  • My Ped said ideally 4 but no less than 3.

  • Both our doctor and the dietitian who did our Introduction to Solids class said that an allergic reaction would happen within 4 hours so you don't need to wait any longer than a day.

I feel like all the stuff I learn is way off from what everyone else is doing though!

  • We do different stuff almost daily. Allergic reactions happen within hours of eating something. Also we know what bothers his tummy the same day.

    This.

Our pedi says the waiting part is for GI issues with the food but that is only if she shows signs after the first food introduced - we did 3 days of oatmeal with no issue so have bounced around with foods sometimes doing 2 new within a day (tried carrots in am and we had avocado with dinner so she had a slice).
  • Since we do BLW, something new is introduced everyday. And if he doesn't even get it into his mouth, I don't count it. My pedi told us that food allergies among babies are pretty uncommon, especially without any family history, but she advised to not introduce too many things in one meal. So we usually do something he's had before and something new.
