Scratching

So, I know this has been discussed before, but I have no idea how to search on mobile... Do any of you have any tips/tricks to keep LO for scratching their face? DD keeps mangling her beautiful skin because she is a notorious eye rubber and digs her thumb nails right into her nose/eye area, no matter how short I manage to keep the nails. Here's a pic of the poor baby's face. She doesn't mind at all, but I hate getting her up every morning only to find a new scratchimage

Re: Scratching

  • Thanks @ChicagoChic82. This girl is crazy! It's as though it is her mission to mangle up her face. I've tried the mitts, they get sucked off in her sleep, nails are short... I know I probably won't have much luck, this was kind of my last attempt searching for some miracle cure or something, lol. I just feel so bad every time I look at her face! I hope soon she will start to associate the pain from the scratching with the scratching itself.

No advice here.  My LO is a big scratcher too, but keeping his nails short seems to work for us.  Of course, that means cutting them almost every other day...ugh.

ETA - Meant to say that I hope you find a solution...!

  • @ChicagoChic82 - that's a great idea! I'll give it a try tonight. Thanks :)

  • Could you try socks instead of the mitts? Socks might be a little tighter around her wrist and may stay on longer.

  • Same problem here. I've been using socks like &s504770 said.
  • Make sure when you clip them that you're not leaving sharp or pointy corners. Sometimes freshly cut nails can scratch worse because of that. I go back over and run my finger over each nail after I clip to make sure they're smooth enough.

  • Thanks everyone for all the great advice. We've tried lots, but there's a couple suggestions here that I hadn't thought of. Hopefully tomorrow morning we'll wake up to a less mangled baby :)
