NWMR: Gifts for 8 and 10 year olds

Does anyone have suggestions for gifts for an 8 year old boy and 10 year old girl? They are DH's youngest cousins and the girl is his goddaughter. We usually spend about $25 each on them. We were trying to think of a toy or game they would both like as a joint gift (they are good friends) but don't know what the hot toys are this year. Thanks!

DS: 2/17/11          DD: 9/4/13

  • What about something they can do together, like movie tickets?

  • Rainbow loom is really popular for girls that age. Joint gift; a wii game?

  • Apples to apples junior would be appropriate for those ages, it probably costs about $20.

  • I agree w/rainbow loom for the girl being a good choice.  Eight-year-old boys are tough - I have one and he is hard to buy for.  You really need to know what they are into.  My DS is into sports and wants an XBox so anything soccer/lacrosse related, or an XBox game, are good gifts for him.  He is definitely not into "toys" anymore.  Also, he likes science, and there are some cool science kits for kids his age.

I would either email the parents to find out what the kids are into, or give gift cards.  They love doing their own shopping at this age.
