keep the divorce decree?

I've been going through all kinds of paper clutter, filing things away, throwing stuff out that no longer applies... Anyway, should I keep DH's divorce decree?

FTR, XW is not BM. there is nothing if importance in the decree other than the date and a statement that all fees have already been paid. And DH told me last time I went through everything that he didn't see why we should keep it, but I am the one who keeps up with all household records so it falls on me now to decide what needs to be kept or not.

Re: keep the divorce decree?

  • Yes. You never know when you may need that. When applying for certain things you sometimes need to show the dissolution of past marriage. Why pay for another copy if something comes up.

  • Yes, there were probably a handful of times DH needed his.

  • Thanks. I kept telling DH that you never know when you might need it.
  • Hell yes.  BM tried to get nosey about DH getting SBP at his retirement.  We had to remind her, along with a copy of decree, that she signed away any rights to his retirement pay and the SBP.

God only knows that if DH were to die and the SBP were to kick in, she would be hounding me.
