Excuses?

Hi Ladies,

I just joined you all last week. I am 5 weeks now with my second. I'm happy to be here! We are still waiting about 5 or 6 weeks to tell family & friends. So here's my problem we are going to my aunts for Thanksgiving tomorrow who has lots of cats and I am a little bit allergic (sometimes my allergies are worse than others). I don't want to take any allergy medicine especially since I'm so early in the pregnancy. I'm trying to think of my excuse not to though b/c my mom already texted me saying my aunt said to remind me and my hubby to take our non drowsy allergy meds before we come so we don't react. I just cant come up with a good excuse to say I didn't take something or to turn it down when they offer it when we are there (they both will like last time when we were TTC). I know if it was cold meds I could say I had some drinks earlier and don't want to mix but I don't think that's the same with allergy stuff. I've got nothing...help

  • If you're a "bit allergic" how badly will you react if you don't take it?  If they offer, can't you just say, "I'm good, thanks"?

  • Benedryl, claritin, zyrtec, and allegra (regular, not the ones with decongestant) are all safe for pregnancy. I took either zyrtec or allegra every day of mine. Since you don't really have an excuse not to take it, just say you didn't feel like taking any meds or that your allergies aren't bothering you. If someone told me they didn't take allergy meds, I would never make the connection that they were pregnant since all the meds are safe.

  • OP, you can take some allergy meds while pregnant. When I got a cold my OB told me to take benedryl. I understand if you don't want to but they are perfectly safe so you still could and wouldn't have to be miserable on thanksgiving.

  • Ok thanks. I may just take a claritin. I know that my OB told me it was ok to take the meds last time around, I just don't like to take much of anything especially at this early critical time. I'd normally rather just be a little miserable, nothing I can't handle but don't want to deal with other people's questions and urging me to take something over and over.
