DS climbed out

It happened. He climbed out of his crib today when he was supposed to be napping. Yesterday I was watching him put his knee up on the top bar so I knew it was coming. DH is going to convert the crib to the toddler bed tonight. This will be interesting. Anyone else have a climber? or in a toddler bed yet?

Re: DS climbed out

  • A has been throwing his leg over the side a lot lately but it's usually when we're playing (I let him jump around in the crib while I put away laundry in his room) but he hasn't done it after he's woken up yet. I'm dreading that day!

  • Ian just started climbing out about a week ago.  Screamed and cried every night at bedtime and refused to go to bed for a week.  We converted his crib on Sunday and he thought it was so cool he could climb in and out himself, and big brother could climb in with him.  I have been letting them have a slumber party for the past 2 nights.  He is happy to climb in and snuggle up with his seahorse and his brother at bedtime and hasn't cried.  Unfortunately, his brother has a habit of getting up in the middle of the night and coming to my room, so now they both come.

  • My dd never liked her crib so we converted it. She's been doing pretty good for the last two weeks in it. At first we had a real problem with her rolling out. (Thank goodness it'd be butt first.) I put a bumper on the side, and piled pillows right at the opening on the floor, just to cushion the fall because we have hard wood floors.

She loves her bed now. She especially likes to cuddle in it with me to read a story before bed. I like the cuddles but hate trying to get out of the thing.

  • Thanks for the input!

I am currently cleaning his room and putting away noisy toys. Hope tonight goes smoothly.

  • I've watched DS on the monitor putting his foot up on the railing, but I don't think he has the momentum or coordination yet to get out of the crib. It's pretty tall. I am so not ready for him to be in a toddler bed!

  • That's awesome.. I converted ours last night... ZERO interest in it other than leaning on it to read a book.. he still climbs on my bed LOL

ah well it's there if/when he wants it .. I'm not ready to move it to his room yet.

  • K is STILL in a sleep sack so she cannot even attempt to get out of her crib -thankfully! We will lose the sack this spring when it warms up, blankets would do no good-she wouldnt keep them on!

Don't feel too confident. My son climbed out of his crib last week and he had a sleep sack on. It's just not as graceful and he kind of hung there for a few seconds before he hit the ground. I was picking out his clothes and had my back to him and I turned around to see that (what I thought was impossible) scene unfold. I'm not converting him to a bed yet because I really only think he did it to get to me. He sleeps like a rock and doesn't even bother sitting up in bed until I come get him in the morning. It's coming though...

  • DD has been trying to climb out too. DH is building her toddler bed and we'll transition her to that soon. DS is due in about 4 months and then he'll likely spend a few months in our room, but then he will be moving into the crib, so it's gotta happen sooner or later I guess.
