We have a fake one. When I bought it online I didn't realize it was frosted or the lights only twinkled...ugh ditzy I know...but I was so excited about how cheap it was! Oh well. We have white lights but multicolored ornaments with a spire on top. We call it our "Holiday" tree around DHs parents, since they are Jewish. I can't wait to add a bunch of homemade ornaments once this LO is old enough to make them!!
REAL!!! Colored lights (have had to compromise with DH on the lights issue, so we do white outside, colored inside). Huge variety of ornaments. I took most of the ones from my childhood since my mom has passed. We do ornaments every year too. I love decorating for Christmas. If only I had a bigger house...I'd totes have multiple trees.
Real, white lights only, plastic red and green bulbs (not ideal, but neither is a cat traipsing through broken glass). I planning to add gold bulbs this year too. Probably going to start getting special ornaments for dd this year.
We currently have a (fake, of course) pink tree that I bought when I was in college. We've been meaning to replace it for about 3 years, but we haven't gotten around to it yet. White lights, all different kinds of ornaments. It started out with only silver and purple ornaments, but I just kept collecting more and more pretty, non-silver or purple ornaments that I could( not put up.
Maybe next year we'll switch to a fake green tree with multicolored lights...maybe.
Ours is real, colored lights, and different ornaments that we've collected throughout the years. My mom gave me my childhood ornaments when we got married.
It's also TIED WITH FISH LINE TO THE WALL because of my insane cats. We also can't decorate the bottom two feet. I've found ornaments in my bed before from them.
Us too - tied to the wall thanks to the cat. We put "cat safe" ornaments at the bottom - ones that he can't eat and won't hurt him. We also use special, non-pokey hooks. Always real. Always colored lights. Lots of family ornaments that we add to every stinkin year. ❤️ My trees!
Aaand here's my cat, cuddling with his favorite ornament last year.
Ours is always a real tree, we have a tradition of going to the tree farm with DH's family and chopping down our trees together. I love it, its so much fun we always take a group pic at the end. I have white lights, but I am thinking of changing to colored this year and we have a mix of home made and store bought ornaments of all different colors.
Ours is a fake Purple tree prelit with white lights. I decorate with all different color ornaments but they are mainly silver, green and purple. We also collect ornaments from every vacation we go on and get a yearly "us" ornament...you can never have too many ornaments :-)
We used to do real until one year I decided I didn't want to deal with the needles so we bought a fake but now I miss the real ones! We just stick to white lights and have both store bought and homemade ornaments. Sometimes we do candy canes but it's kinda whatever strikes us at the moment
Fake, pre attached colored lights (am I the only one that likes colored lights better? You don't see them anywhere anymore). We have a tradition in my family where everyone gets a new ornament every year and we mark what they are and where they are from in a book. Then when you get married you get all your ornaments (except your 1st one, mom and dad keep that) to start your new tree. Not themed in any way but I love it because there are so many memories from the different trips and things they all came from.

I LOVE this idea!!!! Would you mind if i borrow this? Maybe we will start this tradition with our kids? Such a great idea!!!!

So weird. I could have written this exact answer down to my mom and bigger house. I'd leave out totes though
Going with a small live tree this year. We usually have a fake tree but I want to go real this year. I'll use clear lights, not really a fan if the colored lights. Plus they go well with the blue and silver ornaments I'll be using this year and the bows I'll use for the topper.
Always real, colored lights, and if there's any theme to the ornaments it's birds. Lots of neutral colored birds. Also lots of glass ornaments in deep colors, and some family/childhood ornaments. And some special ones for DS. I'm not one to get a family ornament every year b/c frankly we're out of storage space and we'd need a bigger tree. I'd love to have that tradition, though.
I have my eye on one I won't even need to decorate. The kids have destroyed the tree starting Christmas 2010. The ornaments they say won't break, well they do. I may not have an awesome tree for 10 more years lol. We decorate the outside though to make up for winning the worst dressed tree on the block award.

7.5 ft white light Alexander Fir. We have to have an artificial tree since DH is allergic to pine.
