  • I have a friend that had made it his duty to white night respecting the turkey starting in October. Every. Single. Year. Bringing me to my UO.

I don't put up decorations before Thanksgiving but sometimes the people that are so vocal against it actually are more disrespectful to the Turkey. How can you be thankful when your bitching non stop about xmas decorations. This is taken solely from interaction with this friend, not towards anyone on here.

Bicyclists need separate roads. I am tired of nearly getting run down by people whizzing by me as a pedestrian at top speeds and totally disregarding traffic signs/signals, and weaving in and out of traffic. I know there are good cyclists out there but around here there are plenty of assholes ruining it for everyone.
    Are those people bike messengers?

  • @cinemagoddess, I was too lazy to type it the whole situation, but I agree, that's not all on Obama. However, I do think he shares some blame for leading people to believe they could keep plans when he likely knew it wasn't true. And ultimately, I think I'm agreeing with the end result.

Also, I don't want this to turn into a skittles debate. I am NOT talking about those who have any problem affording healthcare. I'm talking about people around here, who already have health insurance, and are firmly a part of the middle class, who have been complaining about drug co pays etc. The attitude has been that they shouldn't have to 'waste' their money on that stuff. I'm just saying that if you have the means to pay for stuff, taking care of your health should be on that list.

  • They should make separate roads for them too.

But really, if it's impossible for you to do the speed limit on a road where there is no passing, you're a dick if you ride on that road anyway every single morning.  When there are various other options for you to go train or whatever you're doing.
I would totally support a separate infrastructure for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Alas, people in this country would throw a hissy fit because of the cost without recognizing the long-term benefits.

  • Thanks guys. My kids are going with xh to my inlaws. I had a few friends invite me but if I have to drive I can't get bombed. I did have one friend offer to pick me up so I don't have to drive but I'm pretty sure he will expect to stuff my turkey in return. Really I just want to get wastey face, clean my house, play my guitar and be alone. Didn't know this was so bad.
Your holiday, do what you want! You deserve the time off!

@lovelyritametermaid it sucks because there isn't a great solution. I know separate roads for bikes isn't actually feasible. And I think people who aren't asshats should be able to bike on the road, since it's a healthy eco-friendly way to commute. I just want to throw sticks at the ones who suck. @cinemagoddess maybe sometimes they are messengers, but usually no. There are plenty of douchecanoes where I work that ride their bike at top speed down the sidewalk to the door of my building. Sometimes even IN my building and once, even into the fucking elevator I was waiting for. Bicycle rights, yo!!!1!
This is the bicycle equivalent of the dipshit car owners who come flying out of the office parking lots in the downtown core without remembering to check for pedestrians.

    Assholes.

Have you ever posted a pic of a hot guy? Because probably that. Stop having opinions and show us the sexyness. We are easy to please.

I can't believe nothing has been done about it where I used to live since people complained about them numerous times and there were accidents and everything.  And we lived by a huge park that would have accommodated them perfectly.  It really became a problem and I asked the landlord what to do and he said there was nothing I could do, every one has tried to make those people go somewhere else and they just wouldn't.
    Dolla dolla bills, y'all.

Unfortunately most places do not have this kind of thing.
But that doesn't mean they can't.  Just that they won't.

  • I have a weird fear of not eating enough greens or drinking water.  Like, I feel if I miss either my health will immediately suffer.  I am not by any means a super healthy eater either, I don't know why I have these neuroses.

@BluepointToasted I feel like I have to have greens every single day too.  I'll probably make a green smoothie in the morning though to get my greens in so I can eat more turkey and cranberry later on!

I can't take the risk of anyone bringing stove top or something nasty to our dinner. So if I get asked I tell them to bring ice or alcohol.
I will be the one bringing stove top. Actually DD's absolute FAVORITE food is stuffing---and DH's family recipe has egg in it so she can't have their stuffing. I will partake in their amazing homemade stuffing, while Reese gets to eat Stove Top. I am thankful that stove top is egg free---she ABSOLUTELY loves it; and I get to add extra chicken and veggies in it for her.
I am glad she likes it but it is still nasty. This coming from someone who will give anything a shot. It is like chewing on wood shavings or something. I can't believe they are still in business.
Oh I definitely agree---it is nasty, but at least there is a "substitute" for her---especially since we realized her egg allergy AFTER her falling in love with regular homemade stuffing. And she is young enough that she doesn't realize the difference between good stuffing vs. stove top.

  • I agree with pretty much all that is said about the bike stuff. Bicyclist assholes scare me because I really don't want to run over somebody and possibly kill them. With asshole car drivers I feel like an accident would suck but at least I wouldn't be running someone over ya know? I don't think that made sense but it is the best I got.

  • I don't think UO threads should be started on an off day without a disclaimer in the title. I totally thought someone was adding to last weeks.

I hate fruitcake, but love my gmas fruitcake cookies.

My Christmas tree is all green, red and gold. It's all matchy and I love it.

Dressing with onion and celery is the bomb. You season it up with poultry seasoning and sage.

@cinemagoddess definitely host foul but I kind of feel like your h might have remembered or offered to make you a plate at one point if he saw the dwindling turkey? I'd have been just as pissed at him as SIL on your place.
I'm with this.  I'd be pretty pissed at my DH as I presume he knew our "deal" was he eats first and then me.  In fact, I'd put more on him.  Host is responsible for everyone, DH is responsible for our deal.

I disagree.  It's the responsibility of the host to make sure there is enough for everybody, period, particularly at holiday meals.  Had DH not said anything, I would be irritated at him, but not pissed.

  • UO: I don't respect the turkey.
For most of my life, T-Day was dinner out with my parents and my brother and then my brother went to his friends' houses that had homecooked meals and invited him.
