Country music- like it or loathe it?

This is a very serious thread, obviously as the title implies. I was born and raised in a big city but went to college in the rural Midwest so naturally I LOVE country music. How about you ladies (and gents)?

Re: Country music- like it or loathe it?

  • @LauraT25- do you consider old country "90's country"? If so, you are okay in my book :) I love both but the older 90's/early 2000's stuff is really the bomb IMO....
  • Love it. I've seen Miranda Lambert live. She was awesome! "Then" by Brad Paisley is our wedding song.

  • @eriannc22- awesome! I'm listening to Tracy Lawrence "Paint Me a Birmingham" right now :)
  • Meh. I could take or leave most of it, with some exceptions.

  • I like 80's to new country....
I can appreciate Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard and all those guys but I don't listen to them or older very often. :)

  • I enjoyed it growing up. I don't really care for it much anymore. Especially not what is one the radio these days.
  • @LauraT25- I'm in agreement with you, 90's country/early 2000's is the very best. The new stuff is good too, but really I like both...
  • @LauraT25- Miranda Lambert is just meh but I LOVE Jason Aldean's stuff. Especially "Big Green Tractor" from 5-6 years ago (I think?)
  • Toby Keith is all kinds of awesome. Good ol' Oklahoma boy :)
  • I dislike a lot of country music, but there are certain songs that I enjoy.

  • I like all sorts of music and definitely have some country favorites. I like both "old" and new and pop/country.

  • Grew up listening to Reba and Garth. Later, saw Dixie Chicks at Lilith Fair. I listen to some country here and there.

  • I think what's important to recognize is that if you're going for actual country, it is Johnny Cash, etc back in the day. Today's country is definitely rock/pop/alternative oriented, but that doesn't mean I don't also love it, just in a different way.

  • I am not a fan of most country music.  There are a few songs that I like or will tolerate but for the most part I dislike it.
  • Love it all! Red dirt country, mainstream, bluegrass, old and new

  • I like most newish country.  Hate Taylor Swift (put that in there for you @luckydad).  Not a big fan of old country, but I respect it.

  • I live in Music City and I have to say that I appreciate that modern country puts revenue into my hometown but I only listen to country from the 1970's and earlier.

    But ya'll have at it!

@beckyp005 my friend's mom used to take us line dancing when I was like 8. When I was older I realized it was at a bar and she was picking up men. Klassy.

  • I like Tim and Kenny and Keith. Taylor's first album was my jam in high school. I don't like Luke Bryan or Jason Aldean or Florida Georgia Line etc. I live in Florida so it's hard to escape.

  • I mostly loathe new country songs and singers. George strait, Garth, and old Tim McGraw remind me so much of college, and I still love a lot of that stuff. Also, old Pat Green anyone?? A Pat Green song was our "song" in college, and I surprised DH by having the DJ play it at our reception.

  • I pretty much love all of it, old and new, with a few very exceptions. Shania and Craylor can stay off my radio, and Luke Bryan is welcome in my bed anytime.

  • I like it.  I don't always love it.  I go through cycles where I'll listen to only one genre of music pretty exclusively, and I've been on a pop music kick for the last year or so.  My favorite country is 90's country.  There are only a handful of songs I've loved post-9/11, I feel like country music got a little emotionally/religiously/politically-manipulative at that point.
  • Absolutely loathe straight-up country. I like some country/folk inspired stuff, but not your standard/popular country.
  • Love it. I love all music in general. My phone has a strange list of music!
  • I pretty much love all of it, old and new, with a few very exceptions. Shania and Craylor can stay off my radio, and Luke Bryan is welcome in my bed anytime.

Me too! There are a lot of us on this board.

Anyway, I didn't like it at all before moving here. Now I know just enough to be able to enjoy a night out at the honky tonks downtown. But I don't listen to it on my own or anything.

  • Loathe. I liked it for a very brief period in high school when I dated a guy who listened to it.
