"You had it, and it didn't hurt you"

I am so sick if hearing that something was always done when I was younger, so why won't I do it now. I was at family dinner yesterday.

I had to keep telling family the baby couldn't have table food. Or let him drink from their glass. He's 5 months old for goodness sakes. No, he does not need a sip of your tea! Not that he could actually get any down even if they put the glass to his lips, but still it's the point if it.

I was also asked if he wanted a bottle of milk. He has milk, his formula. Well, doesn't he want some milk I have 2 percent. Ahhhhh, what is wrong with these people.

  • My MIL didn't buckle her kids into their car seats, and they turned out just fine. Therefore, I don't need to buckle LO up, right?

I know it can be frustrating! Tell them it's just the way you've chosen to do things and try to shrug it off.

Yeah, I use the that's what's recommended now, and leave it at that. But then I got the quack doctors speech.
  • My brother and his fiance let LO nom on a pretzel rod. I saw it and quickly told them not to let her put it in her mouth... And tried not to freak out at them. They are due in February.

  • I told my dad that we needed to do one food at a time so we will know if he has a allergic reaction to something. He said "that baby won't have any food allergies and I can promise you that." Ha I guess he is all knowing!

  • I was at a family dinner with grandparents and aunts/uncles and they asked me if he had a taste of any food from our plates yet. I laughed and said, "no!" thinking they were kidding. They looked shocked and said that i was an "overprotective mother." This was when he was 3 months old too!

  • I've been told karo syrup for her constipation (she wasn't even constipated), been offered puréed potato soup (MIL works at a hospital), told that car seats now are just "too much," and "back when you were a baby we just would have given them a blanket and my generation would call yours crazy". The last was my mom who has been insanely supportive with everything.
