Yelled at for not going to a baby shower...

My best friends sister just had her 1st baby 2 weeks ago and tonight was her baby shower. Tonight as in a 8pm baby shower...
In all my 22 years, I've never heard nor been invited to a evening baby shower.
So I went and bought a gift, was all ready to go when my friend called me from the shower and said to stop by the liquor store and grab a case of beer and some tequila. I asked ok but why? And she said everyone's starting shots..
Again, in all my 22 years I've never been invited to a baby shower in the evening where their was shots! I've been to one where they did chamapagne and wine. That's totally different.
So anyways, I told my friend I will stop by, grab the alcohol and only stay a little while since not only am I obviously not drinking but it's the only time I'll be able to see my bf for 10 days.
She flipped. She went off the deep end. Her sister who I should mention is 16, had invited all her young friends and she needed my help. She never told me I would be helping with the shower, I was invited as a guest. So I got all upset and she was being drunk and rude. So I stayed home. Well man alive, I've received 18 missed calls/texts from her and her sister....
So was I in the right not going or should I have not been over emotional and just gone????
What would you have done ?!?

She's 16, baby shower was AFTER the baby was born, and they wanted alcohol... I see problems written all over that situation. And it is your friends sister.. Not your friend. They need to breathe a little. Looks like they wanted the booz more than your company. So annoying and immature.

You did right by not going. There are just so many things that are wrong with this story. Like PP said, where was the newborn while the kids were getting drunk?

It concerns me that all she can think of is drinking when there is a newborn at home! Trust me I wanted to at times, but I had a baby that needed me. You made the right decision.

Umm baby showers are a welcome to motherhood. I don't think tequila is appropriate. Oh babies having babies...... (That's not an insult to all teen moms I know some who matured and were great)

Sometimes as much as we love people we out grow them. Sometimes only temporarily sometimes permanent.

A real friend doesn't do this to you. Make you feel crappy because you disagree to do something that goes against your moral compass.

At the point where she mentioned that you needed to stop and by alcohol, I would have been out. Especially since the mother is a teen. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. Your friend was 100% in the wrong.

Thanks to all the posts. Made me feel a lot better about my decision
I talked to her this morning and said we need to have a talk IN person. She agreed. She is 25, has a new born herself and an older child, now her teen sister who has a 2 week old is following in her footsteps.
Oh and yes. Same wonderful BFF who offered to take me for an abortion when I EXCITEDLY told her I was pregnant.
After today I can't see us being friends anymore. Bf agrees that is just not a good situation.

yyyyyyyyeah, buying alcohol for minors is a big no-no. That sucks that she was dishonest about it; you could have gotten into huge trouble. She sounds like a jerk.

They rented a hall and get this, the baby was there!! But not just hers, her group of teen "role model moms" with their clans were there too !!
I've got nothing against teen moms and yea sure I think most kids these days drink at a younger age....
But COME ON!!! I just can't wrap my mind around how this sounds ok to them!! It's so toxic. I mentioned it to my mom this morning and she actually works for CPS, she's going to see if she can put in something anon. Mainly to protect me, but we are in a small town tho and theirs plenty of pics on Facebook.
One has this chick holding her baby and doing a shot, caption saying "being a mom doesn't mean I can't still party with my bitches! #yolo #idc #imamom"

That just makes me sick. I think it would be a good thing to have your mom/her agency look into it. The baby is two weeks old now, but what's going to happen in the future? Good for you for staying home and recognizing a bad situation!

Wow.  It was absolutely the right choice to skip out on that train wreck.  I don't know why anyone in their right mind would expect someone to stop and pick up alcohol for a group of teenagers especially when there were children of the children present.  I agree with PPs this is not a person you need in your life.  I am so concerned for all these little ones who seem to have crap parents.  I'm glad you discussed this with your mom and she is looking into what can be done about the situation.

Also, I'm just gonna say it, I'm having a hard time believing all your stories. Each one is more over the top ridiculous than the last. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt though. If they are true, seriously take a good look at your situation and think about making some changes. It sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, so why is a smart girl choosing to be friends with such idiots?

I'm sorry to those who think maybe I'm making some of this up. I just needed to vent about it but I won't anymore. I'll just stick to reading everyone's posts, honestly fine with me.
Not that it matters but me and that friend are not friends anymore. And CPS has been notified not by my mom but by one of the other parents who's child and grandchild was at the party. Thanks to those who commented supporting me. Much appreciated. Like I said tho, I don't want to be called a fibber (my words of course) so I will not post anything else. Take care everyone.

Thank you very much. It's all being dealt with now. The rest of my friends are rather normal compared to this one. I apologize for posting so much tho. I will not post anything else, I'll just stick to reading other peoples posts. That's what I enjoy

And about this party- you definitely made the right decision. Sounded like a frat party with babies as props.... I really hope none of them were hurt at all .... I have nothing against teen moms at all but the immaturity just makes me cringe. It doesn't sound like those kids were ready to raise a baby....

We aren't friends anymore anyways but no that's not the reason I didn't want her to know it was me that filed a report, I live in a very small town and word of mouth and rumours spread like wild fire. I was nervous of a confrontation by my loose cannon ex BFF

First of all, I've never hear of such a dysfunctional type of baby shower...and after the baby was born no less?  Shots on a Monday night....um, no.  Even if I wasn't pregnant, um, no.  And to top it off you'd essentially be buying alcohol for a bunch of underage teenagers!!!!!  Holy illegal!  Sorry, but you're friend was completely out of line.  I would have done the same thing and gone home so I'm with you.
