Pregnant after 35

late intro - May I hang out here?

Hello,

I'm a little late (16 1/2 weeks along) joining - it's taking a while to trust that this pg may actually last and result in a baby so have been in PGAL and dipping my toes into my BMB and just lurking here a little.  But as things go on I'm having more concerns related to being an older mom and especially an older FTM, so would welcome the companionship and wisdom of some more others in the same boat, if that's OK!  Other place I've lived and worked before having a first child in at least the mid- if not late- thirties was totally common but where I live/work now I'm pretty much grandma-aged so I am feeling more aware of being AMA even though, thankfully, the people at the midwife practice I'm going to are not at all concerned/bothered about it.  I really hope to be able to stay in their care and not end up having any conditions that make me an "MD-only" patient.

I'll be 39 next month (as I noticed a few others of you on another intro thread also will be) and if this baby turns out to be our rainbow, she will be our first child.  Also my parents' first grandchild (my older brother and his wife did not have children).

  • Welcome and congrats! I'm 40 and also a FTM. This board isn't as active as the BMBs but it's full of great supportive ladies. There are a lot of us 40+ so I think you will find that extremely comforting. Good luck to you!

  • Welcome, CONGRATULATIONS!  I hope your pregnancy goes wonderfully!

  • Congratulations! You're in awesome company! I am 39 and currently 15 wks, so we have close due dates! So happy for you :)
  • Congratulations! I am in the same situation with the grandparents-to-be. My older brother and his wife also have no kids so this baby is the first. My parents are beyond thrilled, I am sure yours must be, too! My mom actually quite quickly produced a bunch of baby clothes and gear that I suspect she had been hopefully hording for a while.

  • Glad you are feeling more comfortable to speak out. I'm 39 and my youngest is 14. My family is not going to be very supportive or understanding so it's hard to be excited. I'm praying my 18 year old holds off for many years before having a baby I mean talk about paranoia that everyone who sees me with the baby and my daughter will be thinking I'm the grandma!! Not to mention one of my staff in her early 30's just announced to everyone at work that she's pregnant. I'm not looking forward to being compared to her as I know she'll probably be sporting the latest maternity fashions throughout her pregnancy as a FTM and let's just say I'll probably be more sensible with my maternity expenditures.
  • Congrats and welcome!
