nap question

Right now we are still on two naps a day. But each nap is only an hour long give or take 15 minutes. We haven't switched because DS gets really sleepy and grumpy about 2 hours after he wakes up in the morning.

My question is:
Would it be more beneficial for us to force him to stay awake and switch to one, hopefully much longer, nap or keep him at two for a while longer and see if he goes back to taking longer naps?

While it would be nicer to get a longer nap than two shorter ones, I think that you have to go by his needs. He will let you know when he no longer needs two naps. I wouldn't force it on him. DS did not drop his second nap until 15 months and I have a friend who has an 18 month old who just now ready to go down to one nap. Every child's needs are different and at barely 12 months old, it is pretty likely that your son still needs the two separate naps.

I hope my LO takes two naps for some time as it is a nice break for me, too. I just follow his lead, but DS is a two-napper for sure.

DD switched to 1 nap at 12 months. This was her decision though.

DD switched over around 12/13 months. She just did it on her own, she started phasing out of the afternoon nap and going down for her first nap at 12/12:30.
