S/O: Best way to explain preschool to DC?

When we say "school" to Alexander he's thinking like middle school.

It was so cute and a little heart wrenching when I mentioned going to school to him and he said, "Ok, I want to play the trumpet."  He's thinking of school like his big brother (6th grade)... He picked his instrument for band class...and that's what he's thinking.

How can I go about explaining it to him?  I keep telling him that he can play his instruments at home but they don't do them at his school...and that he's going to have fun meeting new friends and learning new things, etc.  But he wants to play the trumpet (it always ends with this).

  • If it is any thing like DS's they play and do projects most of the of the class.  FWIW they do sometimes play instruments, although most of them are percussion (lovely on the ears!).  I would tell him there is a alot of playing and doing projects with other kids.

  • We have always called daycare "school" just to give L an idea of where he was going.  He knows that Daddy goes to school, and he knows that he goes to school too.  I know that is no help at all, but we made it a game with him saying how much of a big boy he is for going to school like his daddy.
