Baby Names

wwyd?

DH and I are down to 2 names for this LO, both firmly like the one we have chosen so to speak. DD ws more named by DH than by me, DS was more my pick... Suggestions on a compromise? Names are Genevieve vs. Cordelia, the one you personally prefer doesn't really matter so much, I am more curious as to how we resolve it. We are both fairly resolute in our stance, but we are not childish here and understand that ultimately a decision will have to be made. We agree that waiting until we see her wont work- all newborns look like a wrinkled bologna to me anyways. Maybe draw from a hat or draw straws? We still have time, so maybe one of us will have a change of heart or we will find we BOTH love?

Re: wwyd?

  • Yeah, I think the best decision is to find a third option you both agree on--otherwise it's a bit of "well he/she won and I'm secretly upset about it." I think I prefer Cordelia but Genevieve is great too.

  • Start over, try again. You both get to veto. DH and I have very very different ideas about boys names and there wouldn't be a solution without agreeing that we just have to keep trying to find something we both like. So we start over from scratch and just keep offering favorites until we both find something we like.

  • I would start over. If neither of you is willing to go with the other name, it seems like there really is no other option.

Is MN set in stone? You could flip a coin and the winner gets 1st choice on FN and other person gets 1st choice on MN.

If you both like both, then I'd do something like  a flip who gets their "top" pick.

If you both couldn't live with the other. Sadly start over :(

  • My great grandparents are Sebastian and Genevieve.......... ❤ I would use both names, out loud, as much as possible.....maybe one will be the more natural fit for your family.
  • Hmmm. If you don't think you can come up with a compromise name then this is a tough one. My husband is less prone to care about names than I am, so I know I'd win. Plus, he gets the last name right? Is there anything else you're compromising on that could work this out? Would the person who doesn't get their first choice have more influence on nicknames or middle names? Do your other kids have any insight (I realize they're young, but sometimes it's really cute when they're sure about a name ). Good luck with your choice. I really like both names.
  • I think the only way forward is to pick an entirely new name.

  • I'm with the majority here. If you don't have the MN set, I like them together, but if that's set, it's back to the drawing board.

  • Do you both really like each name with a slight preference for one, or is it a mine vs. yours kind of situation? If you both like them both, I suggest just waiting it out for another few weeks. If it's mine vs. yours, drop them both and go back to your long list.
