Baby Names

Isa

I came across a woman in her 50s today with this name. It's pronounced Ice-Uh.

I like it.  What do you think?

Interesting.  EE-sah is pretty too. I like them both.

ETA: Totally just realized, now that you say EE-sah, that I've come across this name before.  The lizard on Dora the Explorer.  I didn't realize it before.  Too funny.

I've only heard this pronunciation, too. I think it's somewhat common as a NN for Isabel/Isabella among Spanish-speakers....?

In that movie Fools Rush In, Selma Hayek's character is an Isabel NN Isa, and there's also a character on "Dora the Explorer" named Isa (the Iguana!).

  • There used to be an actress in the Philippines named aiza. Pronounced he same way but this is how she spelled it. I have a friend named Isamara and her nn is Isa. Pronounced Ee-sa.
  • I, surprisingly, pronounced it EYE-sa. Mostly because I love the name Isla (EYE-la) and I thought it was a typo when I saw it ;) I think it's different (in a good way), but NMS.
  • I like it. Simple name but pretty. I say EE-sah.

  • I love this name. Pronounced this way. It's the name of the bad guys son that was killed on the show Homeland.

  • I would have guessed Ee-sah too. The one I know is French and uses it as a nn for Isabelle.

  • I have a student named Isa (Eye-suh).  People are constantly mispronouncing it until they get used to it.
