Late Term and Child Loss

Back to the unknown

So we got the call from the geneticist today, and all of our tests came back normal. Besides me having a slightly elevated lipoprotein, which most likely wouldn't cause anything, everything was normal. Which means we are back to "We have no idea what caused the placental abruption with DS2 or what caused the premature placental aging with DS1." I feel so conflicted, almost in shock. I was so sure the tests would show I had a blood clotting disorder, like they thought, and that that would at least give us an answer and at least be something productive out of our loss. But no. Everything is fine. Just a random incident. And really, it terrifies me to try again for another baby. That whatever is going on will hurt another of my children, and then the doctors will be like "Ooohh! That's what's going on!" and we'll finally figure it out, after we've suffered even more. Yes, I'm glad I don't have this disorder, but I also hate this unknown. I would rather deal with the bad then sit here in the unknown. I don't even know what to think, I just feel like I'm in shock.

  • ***Siggy warning***

Do you know if they did a full panel for blood clotting disorders? I truly hope that they did all the tests they could have to help you get answers. It sucks to not know what would cause the death of our babies, because it means we dont know what to do differently if there is a next time. Im sorry to hear you didnt get any good answers.

  • So sorry you didn't get the answers you wanted, hon.
  • I'm sorry you didn't get any answers. I felt the same shock, wanting a reason to pin it down to so we could somehow work around it. Not having an answer is so hard. Thinking of you {hugs}.

  • One of my biggest fears is not knowing. I'm so sorry that this is what you're having to deal with. I'm similar to you in that I'd rather know something difficult that we can work through versus feeling like it just happened. I hope you can find some peace with it to move on in whatever way you all decide is best for your family.

  • I'm sorry. I get it. Patricia's death at 31 weeks and Anna's birth and subsequent brain hemorrhaging at 26 weeks are complete mysteries to my docs. We want more children but I can't imagine what we'll face next!

Our Angel Patricia born sleeping 3/30/12 at 31 weeks
Our Fighter Anna born early 1/8/13 at 26 weeks

  • Thank you ladies, for all the support and encouragement. I am still feeling pretty let down by the rests but I'm planning to schedule a follow up with my doctor Io make sure we are checking in to everything.
