I see so much info out there on how to train your baby to sleep, but I never trained him to crawl - he just did it. I provided him a floor & space and over time he just got it. Couldn't the same be said for sleep?

Exactly...you provided space, time and a floor he learn to crawl. Provide a routine, bed/crib and time for babe to figure it out and eventually he will sleep. Unfortunately, since learning to crawl doesn't mess up adult sleep/routines more parents are willing to let them do it at their own pace. With sleep, it messes up our lives so we tend to insist they do it our way, on our time frame...hence a LOT of wonky sleep training theories!
