Baby Names

Would this be weird?

I know you ladies are probably sick of me asking questions but I promise I am closing in on a name. (well...a girl name anyway!)

I have always loved the name Caroline and think it would be a great mn option for Reese. My issues is, my first name is Carolyn and I know that people will assume that I am trying to name her after myself but truth is, I just really like the name and it's about the only mn that I like paired with Reese.

Do you think it's weird to use a mn so close to my fn name? Would you assume that I was trying to honor my own name? Thoughts on Reese Caroline?

Thank you all for the help! I just know that I can count on getting honest answers here, where as with friends, they will just smile and say they like it.

  • Nope, not weird. Go for it!

  • I like Caroline Reese, but THAT would be weird with your first name... as a mn, I think it's no problem at all.

    How could anyone NOT think it was for you? That said, no one blinks when a child has dad's name (either as a Jr. or a MN) so if that's what you want to do, go for it.

    ETA: As another option, how about Reese Coraline?

  • Not weird at all.

  • Not weird at all.  Even if you were "trying" to name your daughter after yourself - no harm no foul.  Go for it!

    Don't worry, I'm working on it.

  • So the situation would be something like:
    Mom = Andrea Jane Smith
    DD = Charlotte Aundrea Smith

    Right?

    Hmmm... It IS a little weird to me. Not so much that I would majorly side eye it, but I would think twice for a moment.

    With that said, I think it's totally normally to give your daughter your FN as her MN.

  • I know a lot of girls with their mothers name as their middle. I even know a Reese ! She's Reese Katherine after her mama. You created her so you get to name her whatever you want. Anyone side eyes it just tell them when they grow a tiny human and then push it out their hoo ha, then they can name that baby whatever they want.
  • I think it's fine!

  • I wouldn't do it for a FN, but as a MN I think it's totally fine. Go for it!

  • I see nothing wrong with her MN being similar to your FN. I personally like when children have similar names or initials as their parents. that's the idea DH and I are going for.
  • I would only think it was weird that it was so close, and not your actual name. I do think Caroline Reese has a better flow than Reese Caroline
  • I like Reese Caroline but yes, I would probably assume you'd named her after yourself. I am not a fan of using a parent's name but it's not like I'd roll my eyes at it. I actually can think of a lot of other names that sound better as a mn but if you love it, use it. :)

  • I know this isn't exactly the same situation, but it does relate to honouring mom's name.
    Our DD's first name is the same as my middle name (which is also my Mom's middle name).  No reason why just boys/dads can share names.

  • I'd wonder why you didn't use your exact name, but I wouldn't side-eye it.

  • Yes, I would think you had named her for yourself, but no, I wouldn't think that was weird.

  • I know plenty of Moms that have given their DD's their mn based on their fn. I don't see anything wrong with it nor do I think it's weird.

  • I would assume you named her after yourself and wonder why you didn't use your exact name but I wouldn't think that much about it after the initial reaction. I think it flows nicely and sounds good with your sibset...go for it!

    I don't think there's anything wrong with honoring a parent with the child's name at all. If you like the name, use it.

    I'm open for other MN suggestions if you've got them! I can already tell you that Reese Noelle is out though. I already know two.
    I really wanted Reese Mary after both my grandmas but it sounds too close to Rose Mary.
