Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Should it still hurt?

I was wondering if anyone else is still having pain during sex.  My baby is almost 7 months old.  When she was born i had a 1st degree tear and had a few stitches--really nothing terrible.  I am breastfeeding and have not had my period yet so hormonally I'm not back to normal.   I am still having mild to medium levels of pain during sex.  Its annoying and i'm totally over it! I read that some women experience pain until they stop breastfeeding/get their period and their hormone levels are back to normal and are less dry.  Thoughts?

  • I would talk to a doctor if it is still very painful every time.
  • I echo the talk to a doctor advice. I had a third degree and two bad internal tears with my son. Recovery from that was long and painful, but I was able to have sex again by 7 months. With my daughter, I had a small first degree tear and was pain free after a few weeks. It could be dryness, and if so, your doctor should be able to help.
  • Talk to your Dr but definitely use lube. I breastfed my son for 13 months. I experienced dryness basically the entire time. We just used lube & it helped a bunch. Now its been 6 months since DD was born & we are using lube again BC of the dryness. But definitely talk to your Dr. Mine was the one who suggested the lube

  • My baby is 7 months and I still have a little pain during sex. I breastfeed and have had my period return but the pain remains. It's not as bad as it was, but its still hurts a little. Also am pregnant again now (not planned) so that is still possible.

  • It still hurts for me, too... not excruciating, but exactly like you describe. I am also still breastfeeding. I figure it has a lot to do with the fact that I'm not really all that into it and blame it on hormones and nursing. I am hoping that once I stop breastfeeding, it will get better. I know it doesn't help that we only DTD once every few weeks now.

  • It still hurts for me a little and dd is 8 months. It got way better when I stopped breastfeeding 2 weeks ago, and is almost nonexistent now but lube helped a lot when I was still breastfeeding.

  • I had pain until I stopped nursing.  My doc said that it was because in addition to lack of natural lubrication, your flesh isn't as elastic while nursing.
