talk to me about amazon grocery prices

i am tired of running in & out of grocery stores on my way home for 10 min before daycare closes to grab random items and would like to be better about ordering online & might use a local produce/meat grocery delivery but I was wondering if amazon prices for pantry/dry/nonperishable foods are similar to in store prices? I know regions vary on food prices, but in general what are you finding w/ amazon prices? I have prime so would probably only order things w/ free shipping.

thanks!

Re: talk to me about amazon grocery prices

  • I find it is hit or miss, like most stores.  They are higher on some items and lower on others, but it is super convenient.  I don't use it all the time but did when DH was traveling more.

  • For many things, it comes out to be about the same as target if you get the 20%. But you have to keep an eye on the prices and make sure they don't jump around. Our pantry items that we have shipped on subscription are: Luna bars, kashi cereal bars, z-bars, Annie's Mac and cheese, kashi instant oatmeal, two kinds of crackers, white rice, brown rice, sunbutter, Annie's bunnies, cat food.... Non food items include: sunblock (I like thinksport and it is much cheaper this way), diapers, wipes, paper towels, Kleenex, toilet paper, coffee filters, tampons....
  • For things that we regularly run out of, or that the store only has in stock some of the time, we've found it's worth it to use the Amazon subscriptions.

Amazon does have an app where you can just scan the shelf tags to get a price comparison. Or just go through your next couple grocery store receipts on their website.

  • I use the amazon subscribe and save for many household, toiletry and kid items.  I figure that I am like the anti-add and anti-coupon mom.  Where some shoppers are all about finding the best prices, I am all about finding the most convenience.  One day I'll expand my amazon list to include groceries...  Actually I order food packets for DD because they are much cheaper through subscribe and save.
  • A lot of the things I found on amazon i had to order in bulk, and I couldn't go through them before they expired. Our local grocery stores deliver but you have to set up a delivery time and it is usually at least 48+ hours away, which doesn't work for me. I started doing the quick shop on my lunch break.
