Babies: 6 - 9 Months

BLW mamas

When did you move onto smaller foods, like peas, blueberries, etc? LO pretty much has her pincer grip, so I know she can pick it up. But are they soft enough for her to gum? We did try corn the other night, but she didn't seem interested. Was thinking of trying peas.

  • If she can pick them up go for it...they will just get swallowed whole...but it's fun for them and she'll figure it out with some practice.  Just make sure they are small enough to be swallowed (peas etc., are fine).

  • Blueberries I personally would smush or cut in half.

  • Just before DD turned 8 months she developed her pincer grasp and has been eating peas, and I've been cutting her food smaller so she can keep working on it... the peas do come out whole lol. I started throwing cheerios on her tray for fun at 7 months so she could work on her pincer grasp.

  • I agree with the poster above - I still mash most of her fruit up. Depending on the food I cut into pea or french fry sized pieces.
