I took advantage of the nursery for one feeding each night.  I also had a c-section, my husband couldn't stay the night.  They didn't take the catheter or IV out for almost 24 hours, so I wasn't able to even get up that first night.  They were supposed to finger feed DD, but told me that had given her a bottle at one point because she was a "lazy feeder."  I think this may have caused a lot of her latching issues, so I have guilt that I didn't keep her in the room at night.  I was so drugged up for the first few days that I wasn't thinking totally rationally at the time.

I did have moments during the day where I felt like you did.  Once the nurse had me stand up out of bed, she didn't come into the room much.  The day after the surgery, I really had a hard time walking and picking her up. (I was told my incision was much larger than needed because they were predicting that DD was 10 lbs. though she wasnt close) I kept dropping things out of my bed and couldnt pick them back up.  I kept asking the maintenance staff to help me, because they were the only ones around.  Luckily, I had a lot of family there for most of the day, so it didn't last too long.

  • My hospital automatically rooms in. There is a nursery available if you want it. He was only taken for brief medical reasons. Blood draws, circ, etc. I had a very long vag birth with no sleep but I had no issues rooming in. I was exhausted but it was worth it for me. Made breastfeeding super easy. We had a private room comp'd since my labor room sucked and H spent the night.
  • Ours room ins but I think you have an option to send them to the nursery. I had the easiest labor this time so I wasn't having any trouble moving around. Our nurses were incredible. Constantly offering food drinks, I thought it was weird. Lol. They totally doted on us till the afternoon when they had 4 emergence cx come in back to back. When they were finally freed up they were so apologetic, which really wasn't needed. At around 2am I couldn't sleep because well I was so excited. They needed to so her testing and offered to do it then while I rested. They kept her for a few hours and like PP's said she came back with bows and booties and well worn out from lots of love. We were only there one night and before we left all the nurses stopped by to say goodbye.

Our hospital has a horrible reputation and DH and I have never had a good experience there. So I was not looking forward to delivering there. But the maternity department was 5star.
