Baby Names

Is "Weston" trendy?

I'm desperately trying to find a baby boy name that is classic and simple but not super common or trendy. "Weston" is our top name (nickname "Wes") and so far the only one that both my husband and I like ;)

But I've noticed the popularity has increased dramatically within the last couple years (via the Social Security name rankings). Is it currently a trendy name?

And while I'm posting.. does anyone else have any other boy name suggestions that are classic and simple yet not trendy/popular?

TIA!

  • Yes. Wesley is a lovely alternative and meets your other qualifications.

  • To me, extremely. What about Wesley?

I'd say that "directional" names (Easton, Weston ...North?) are trendy right now.  I think Weston will be timestamped rightthissecond.

Wesley is a bit more timeless to me.  But, others may disagree.
This.  If you're using the NN Wes anyway, I think Wesley is way closer to classic vs. trendy than Weston is.  FWIW, our apartment managers at our last place had a baby named either Easton or Weston, I could never remember which, because I'm bad with directions anyway and to me they're roughly equivalent in terms of trendy directional surname-y names.  One of my high school friends has a Wesley.  I don't ever forget his name.

The bolded is a good indication that a name is trendy.

Weston is OK but neither classic or simple IMO.

  • I don't love Wesley because I'm not a huge fan of "ley" on boy names. It sounds a bit too feminine and/or juvenile for me.

  • I don't like Wesley all that much, but it's better than Weston, and other direction-y names.

I'm probably going in a completely wrong direction here, but I'm throwing out my hubby's name as a suggestion: Justin?

Granted, this is a Westley, but I don't think he's juvenile or feminine in the *least*:

  • I like it.  And I also like it better than Wesley...but maybe that is because I know a Wesley.  It is on my short list.

I love Wyatt, but that is because it is my DS's name.

  • It's a little trendy to me, yes. But not bad. I like Wesley way more.

Wesley, Spencer, Travis, Miles, Sebastian, Bryce

  • I really like all of brooksidebride's suggestions.... Spencer, Travis, Miles, and Bryce seem like great alternatives to Weston. You still get the essence of the name but those are much more classic.

I really like Wesley. If it's not for you, that's okay. If you don't want trendy, don't do Weston though.
  • I've loved the name Weston for ages, so it doesn't feel trendy to me personally. But, I see how others could see it that way .I love the nn Wes, but Wesley doesn't seem as strong an name. Maybe Westley instead? If it was good enough for Princess Buttercup...

Other names we considered that were similar imo:

    Spencer, Conrad

  • I'm not a big fan of Weston.  I don't really care for Wesley either, but I do like the nn Wes.  Although I wouldn't consider the name Wes a fn like some others that can stand alone like Leo (KWIM)?

My DS is named Pierce.  I think it has the not popular, recognizable, and somewhat pretentious feel that you may be going for.
  • DS2 name is Weston NN Wes. I love it! He's the only one I know, so I don't think its trendy. However, I don't think Wesley is feminine at all. It was my first choice but there was too many L's for my liking with his MN. Weston was our compromise & I'm glad we went with it. Good luck!
