20 week scan

can someone tell me exactly what i'll be seeing?

is this the uber coveted 3D scan or a traditional US just to check organs and gender?

the reason i ask is because DH prob won't be able to make it...right now i'm thinking it's only to really check organs and gender. but if it's a super 3D scan he'll be sad to miss it. i can always call the office too to find out but hey why not ask here first

I think it depends on your office and their equipment. We had our 20 week scan with the MFM who had pretty high tech machines and they were able to get a few 3d pictures. Good luck!

I agree - it depends on your office's equipment and what they choose to use. They don't need to use 3d to make the measurements that the a/s involves. There will likely be lots of measuring of organs and a determination of the sex (if you want to know). It's a longer appointment, so you'll get to see your baby for a good while. But other than that, you'll have to ask your office what to expect. 

Does your H want to be there when you find out the sex? It may be a good idea to schedule a time when he can be there. I also know that some people get potentially bad news or red flags at this appointment (about abnormalities in the organs and whatnot), so it may be a good idea to have him there in case you need the support. Let's hope that you won't need it, but having the support there just in case may be a good idea.

Is this your Anatomy scan? Mine was at the MFM and was about an hour. We didn't get any 3D shots but my buddy was sleeping and just wouldn't move that much. 

I wouldn't want DH to have missed it.

I agree with the other ladies--our appt was about 45 min to an hour and we got to see LO in the most detail we'd ever had up until that point. We also got a few 4D pics. Not sure if you are finding out the gender, but that was a big moment. DH and I were definitely happy that we attended that appointment together!

My MFM didn't do 3D, but it was still really neat to see how big baby had gotten and watch him stretch his legs and awe at how large his feet look and how cute his button nose was and "look, he's trying to suck his thumb!".  It made it real for MH to see the movement on screen.  I think that's my last scheduled scan for this pregnancy.  You may want to check with your dr. to see if he's planning another for you after this point.  I'd try to push DH to be there if he can move things around, but if he can't it's not the end of the world...he'll still be there when LO arrives, and that's what counts!

my DH hasn't been able to come to any appointments/scans since my MFM consult at 10 weeks.  i did the NT scan with my mom and went to the anatomy scan by myself.  i was a bit concerned they would find something wrong and i would be alone, but everything was fine and i managed ok.  as far as gender, the tech wrote it down in an envelope and we opened it at home together that night.
