UO Thursday

Go!

Mine: I hate pumpkin pie. And apple pie. Or mostly pie in general. The only one I like is key lime pie because of the graham cracker crust.

  • I think the whole "I married my best friend!!" is cliche and well, stupid. No, you married your soul mate, lover, partner, etc. Not your friend. I'm sure you have actual best friends out there - how does that make them feel? Are you said you couldn't marry them too?

Me too.  I once got in an argument with my aunt b/c I took a piece of pie and only ate the crust...she said it was wasteful.  I fed the inside to my dog...who is wasting now?!?

I did marry my best friend, don't be a hater. ;-) I still consider him my best friend and he tells me all the time I am his. I guess it depends on what your definition of a "best friend" is. The only other person who is my best friend is my sister and I'm sure she feels fine with me not marrying her. I do think it's cliche but for me it's also true.

I used to hate pie too. My DH is an amazing cook/baker and makes me love pies. His strawberry rhubarb is delicious! I think I just hated the jelly-like fillings you get with some pies. The texture is just off.

Same. My husband and I have been together since we were 14. We are by far each other's best friend. My sister is a close second.
But at some point doesn't it evolve beyond a friend? I get that things start in friendship and that you're obviously friendly in your interactions, but isn't there a ranking of association? Lover should be the pinnacle, not mixed in with the rest of the friends. Or is he like your BBFF and everyone else is just a BFF? lol ;-)

Definitely BBFF... lol. Or best friend with benefits?! I think of a BF as someone I can tell anything and everything to and do anything with and I can do that with DH. And yes he is my lover but he is my best friend before that... maybe I should say "I married my kindred spirit" or my "bossom buddy" for any old school Anne of Green Gables fans?

I don't believe in the concept of a soul mate -- that there is "one" person out there we're destined to be with, who "completes" us.  I think that you become a person all on your own, a complete person, and then you find a person who compliments your life and that you have fun with and are sexually attracted to... there are probably dozens of people on this planet that we could do this with, and you just sort of choose who you want to be in the foxhole with.

Mike is ONE of my best friends -- but I have several.  I often find myself saying "one of my best friends from college" and I realize that's a misnomer because best means BEST, but i guess I don't really have ONE best friend... the most important friendship and relationship in my life is with my husband - we're buddies AND lovers, and that's what makes it BEST.  But no, he's not like one of my girlfriends...

I am not big into animal print for DD either. I must be really old fashioned because I don't even like her wearing black. Black is for adults, she's a baby - she should be in pinks, purples and her clothes should have cats and dogs on them ;)

My UO is that I hate animal prints on clothing and accessories. I hate it even more when its in unnatural colors- pink and purple leopard print.

My UO was going to be the same thing! I can't stand animal print clothing, and especially for babies and little girls. I have returned or donated every animal print thing we received for Julianne.

I think it is fine in moderation. Like just shoes or just a bag, but not head to toe. I have a friend who is leopard print obsessed. She used to have seat covers and a steering wheel cover in her car. It was beyond tacky.

< I think it's stupid when grandparents want their grandchildren to call them something trendy because they think they are too young to be grandparents. Two IRL examples I can think of are friends who call their grandparents "Glammy" and "McDaddy", the "Mc" being short for motorcycle. Annoying.
They sound like rapper grandparents or something.
LOL. So true. I just think it makes them sound dumb and shallow. And both are in their 60's, so not exactly young.
I absolutely hate this. MY mother calls herself "Glamma" and my grandmother "GG". I'm going to also bandwagon on the adults loving Disney as far as visiting Disneyland all the time. I find it creepy especially when they are kid less. I know someone who goes every Saturday

Going off of the post from yesterday about what you like and dislike about your baby's sex.

ETA: ok, so this first paragraph is really a confession, sorry.  The second paragraph is likely an UO.  Oh well.  I'll probably forget to do a FFFC tomorrow, so I guess this will count for that, too.

My UO is that I am near depressed that I don't have a girl.  Perhaps there is something psychologically wrong w/ me.  I just had another dream about having a daughter a few days ago.  I hope someday the feeling and longing goes away.

And I find it amusing that people who have one child of each sex say that they wouldn't have minded having 2 boys or 2 girls and would never be upset.  I guess I don't feel like someone who is living the life of getting to experience both a boy and girl should get to tell those that don't how they would "never" be upset about it.

And, yes, I am thankful every minute for my 3 boys, and I love them to pieces and would never TRADE any of them for a girl, and I am grateful I could have kids, and grateful they are healthy, and all that.

My second child was a girl and I must admit I was happy, having already had a boy. I say I would've been happy if she was another boy and I would have been BUT I would definitely be trying again to have a girl and if I didn't have one as a third child I would've been disappointed too... and I would be tempted to try for a 4th child. I totally get women wanting to have a child of a specific sex. I had such a great relationship with my mom and I always wanted the same with a daughter.

OMFG I love Disney. You're never too old for magic.
Me too! I have been secretly plotting to go to Disney World next September so we can take advantage of both kids getting in for free before E turns 3.
I think it is funny in that Walt Disney was a huge Nazi sympathizer and nobody ever talks about that, hmmm... kinda like how nobody really talks about the fact that Steve Jobs STOLE the company from Wozniak and also fathered a child out of wedlock that he denied.  These are not good people.

I'm sorry you are having a tough time right now. H and I have already discussed the possibilty of #2 being a girl and we both admitted to each other we might be bummed for a bit. I feel so silly saying that though because I know there are so many people who can't have kids and here we are saying we would be bummed to have 2 healthy girls

Yes, but just about every big corporate head has done something sneaky or bad in the past. People do not talk about it because it doesn't directly effect the product they've put out. I do not care about Walt's past. If you actually looked in the old Disney movies, when he was alive, you can see by the way some characters were portrayed that he didn't like people who weren't white. But Disney still puts out great movies.
