DH and I were talking about this the other night.  Especially at business things.  If you don't drink people think it's odd and feel uncomfortable around you.  People can hem and haw all they want, but the fact of the matter is, in many professions, it's absolutely expected that you will have alcoholic drinks at certain after-work/company events. 

I fucking hate drinking around my co-workers.  My professional filter hangs by a goddamn silk thread as it is, and a glass of wine later, it is all I can do to not share all my feelings about their asshattery.  It's a mess.

WORD. 

Plus I think unless there is a big damn meal in front of you that you eat before you start drinking, drinking at company/professional gatherings is just a clusterfuck waiting to happen.
