Short story: Mason Alexander has finally arrived! He was born at 41w1d after 39 hours of induced labor. He is 22 inches long and weighs in at a whopping 10 pounds 7 ounces.
Novel: After my failed induction attempt last week, we went in at 730 am on the 19th for attempt #2. They started cervadil and after the first 12 hours I had made no progress. They did another dose and at 930 am on the 20th determined I was now favorable for induction although still only at 1-2 cm. From 930 to 6 I didn't make a lot of progress and stalled at each step.
Around 4 I gave in and got my epidural because the contractions were coming hard and fast and MW thought it might help make some progress if I could relax.
I was checked at 8 pm and was finally to 7 cm, 100% effaced and I had started to feel pressure when LO finally dropped more into my pelvis. At 9 pm I was 9 cm and progressing much quicker. At 930 pm I had just a small lip left. MW had me do some practice pushes to try and get him to come down further. She didn't want to tire me out so we waited.
At 10 pm I was fully dilated and really feeling the urge to push. I tried pushing on my back but I couldn't focus the push so I ended up on my left side in the fetal position with one hand gripping the bed rail and the other gripping DH. 39 hours from when we started, after only 30 minutes of pushing and screaming "I CAN'T" Mason arrived. DH is pretty emotional and bawled through the whole delivery.
I had only a small abrasion, no tearing, and got just 1 stitch. Everyone was impressed when he weighed in at 10 lbs 7 ozs, and 22 inches long, my biggest baby yet. Afterwards I had some hemorrhaging so I spent 3 hours having my uterus massaged and pumped full of drugs. DH spent 3 hours in the corner of the room rocking LO (totally jealous BTW).
If my blood levels look OK this morning I'll go in for my postpartum tubal. LO will get an ultrasound today as well to check on his dilated kidneys.
Your reward for suffering through all this: DH and LO. He has a full head of hair and dark eyes just like his daddy.
