Newborn diarrhea

FTM to a princess born just this past Sunday. She had been having regular diapers at the hospital, but like magic as soon as we got home she became a pooping machine! She had 6 nice full poopy diapers through the night, and has had 3 much looser near diarrheal stools so far today :( of course I will call the pediatrician if it becomes worse, continues through tonight, or she's showing any signs if dehydration, but I'm just wondering if anyone else had experienced this - if it's a normal stage, or part of their digestive development? Is it because I'm taking stool softeners? or probably something I ate? She's EBF so far. Otherwise she's good, still eating well, plenty wet diapers.

    what colour are her poops? From my knowledge (also a ftm) on bf babies their poop can be confused as diarrhea. Their poop can be watery, but usually a mustard colour with seeds or a cottage cheese like texture. Does this sound like her poop? hoping this helped.

    This!  NB poo can be pretty loose.  Mine had diarrhea due to allergies as well.  It's different.  Just keep tabs on it.  Take a pic and show your pedi if you get concerned.

    It's a medium brownish, I didn't dissect it but next time I will. Yay I'm so relieved! Thanks mommys!

    Called my pediatrician yesterday for the same reason, watery stool and he is EBF. I also noticed DS was very gassy lately, painfully so. She told me watery stool and gassiness in EBF babies can be due to not getting enough hind milk. Ensure to empty first breast fully, about 20 minutes of active sucking, although could be longer if LO hasn't yet become efficient. I also noticed stool had a slight vinegar smell. Weird, I know. To ensure he got enough, I EP for two days for 20 minutes each side to completely empty. And his stool is back to normal.

    My girl pooped so much in the first two days that she went down nearly a pound! Still a crazy pooper 10 weeks later. Some babies just go more often :) I'd only worry if your LO is unhappy.

    Like others said, diarrhea is literally like brown water - zero substance to it at all.  What she has sounds normal and not concerning :)
