Hip Pain

Anyone with hip pain during their singleton or twin pregnancy? I do not remember this level/kind of pain during my pregnancy with DD. I'm only 15 weeks and have spent the last 3 weeks in worsening hip pain. Worse on my right, but painful on both sides. Today I'm at work in tears because it's really really painful and I just can't get comfortable. My OB is referring me to PT, but I am feeling so overwhelmed like there is no way I can make it to 38 weeks like this. I think I have a pretty high threshold of pain and lasted more than 24 hours in labor with DD without any medication, have had broken bones set with out pain meds, etc. But I just want to cry and sit in pigeon pose all day long to just ease a tiny bit of the pain.

Any tips?

Re: Hip Pain

  • I'm pg w twins and have had 6 precious singletons. I've never had hip pain like this. Both hurt but the left is ridiculous. And it's worse while sleeping.

  • I was diagnosed with an SI joint disorder after DD#2. The hip pain is the worst pain of my life. It's at the worst after sitting or laying down and then getting up. I can't put full weight on it at first. Thankfully it only happens while I'm PG. With my first pregnancy my 1st doctor said it was just sciatica and brushed it off. With my 2nd pregnancy and a new doctor I had an MRI after delivery that confirmed the ligaments are deteriorated. I wear a brace to hold myself together when I'm walking/standing for an extended period of time.  PT was no help, and actually made the pain worse. I hope you don't have what I have but it is often mistaken for sciatica pain. Good luck!

  • Yes! I already have back issues and the hip just adds to it. I have pain meds that I can take which have been a life saver so I am functional. Don't be afraid to ask if the pain is too much. Gl!
  • Thanks ladies. I'm waiting for the call from the Physical Therapists office to set up an appointment hopefully very soon to see if it helps.

Paradisemoon - I"m sorry the PT didn't help...and hopefully it's not that, but good to know what it could be...I've wondered if a brace would help...I sort of feel like my hips are not in the right place. I'm super sore when I wake up, and when I'm sitting all day at work...I'm constantly shifting to try and get comfortable, standing and trying to stretch...to somehow make it go back to where I feel like my hips should be.

  • I have SI joint issues on my right side and bursitis on my left side. I will say that early 2nd tri was the worst for hip/back pain - I attributed it to loosening and stretching ligaments from hormonal changes That's when I have a lot of RLP, etc.

Anyway, it actually got better as my pg went on from a purely pain perspective. I got loads more uncomfortable and my ability to move/maneuver drastically decreased, but that may have helped ease the pain as well.

I hope PT works for you!

  • I experience some of the same things, but have found a chiropractor that had twins herself and has done wonders to my hips putting them into alignment. I go at least 1-2 times and week and I know that this is what has gotten me through a twin pregnancy so far! I am 26 weeks so I still have a ways to go and can't be in pain forever.
