Crib & Mattress

We will be transitioning LO from her bassinet to a crib (she's getting so big!).  We haven't purchased her crib or mattress yet, so I thought I'd check with my experts to see what you ladies went with crib & mattress-wise.  We don't want to spend a ton of money....$1000 cribs are out of the question :)

Would love to hear your suggestions!

Re: Crib & Mattress

  • I know it's a no no, but we bought a used crib then a new mattress at target. I washed the crib pretty well and made sure it was newer with the proper sized slats. I was going to paint it but never got around to it.
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • Graco Sarah crib from Walmart and Sealy soybean foam mattress. It's held up well from ds1! Totally recommend both. The crib will convert without any extra stuff as well. Not that we plan to do that, ours is going on Craigslist as soon as DS2 is done with it.
     DS1 8/2011. DS2 8/2013.

  • We got the Savanna Tori convertible crib from JC Penney. They also have matching chest of drawers and dresser w/ hutch which we got. I was a little concerned just because I've never ordered furniture from them, but the pieces are beautiful and very sturdy! You can get the toddler rails for the crib and it can also convert into a full size bed. Mattress wise we got a Sealy.

Here's the link to the crib: Savanna Tori

  • Delta Canton - we got it off Amazon but they sell it at almost all the stores.  We got our foam mattress from WalMart.  I forgot the exact kind but it was really affordable and had great reviews... I'm talking like $40!

  • We got both our cribs from buy buy baby. I don't care for 4 in 1 convertible cribs and that's all they had on the floor, bc those are the most expensive. I asked if they had any 3 in 1 and they had a few in a book that were drastically less expensive. We got one of those and are very happy w it.

I also prefer foam mattresses over spring.

IMO, spend money on a mattress over a crib.

  • We got a simple graco 3 in 1 crib from target and then I got a foam mattress from amazon. I think the crib was $150 and the mattress was $100. Not bad at all. We ordered crib online used red card got an extra 5% off and free shipping.
  • We have the Baby Caché Heritage Lifetime Crib. I like that the BRU cribs convert into a toddler bed and then a single (I think a single) bed. Then we ended up getting a Sealy Baby Posturepedic Plus Mattress.

  • DD1 had the DaVinci Kalani off of Amazon.

DD2 has the Orbelle Jenny off of Diapers.com

Don't remember which mattress I bought but DD2 is using DD1's. Well. That's what's in the crib. She isn't actually using it yet.

We got a Delta crib from Target and purchased a mattress, changing pad, and mattress cover set ($90 for the set I think) from Amazon.

Edit- my auto correct is on a rampage.

  • We got the Gulliver crib from Ikea for $99 and the Sealy Soybean mattress off Amazon for about $80.

So, quiet down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep."
  • We registered for a Davinci Emily 4 in 1 crib (it converts from crib to toddler bed, day bed, and full size bed). My ILs bought it for us, but it was under $200. We bought a Colgate Classica mattress as well as the matching dresser/changer.

  • We bought our crib from a small local store. We went with a Serta mattress from Buy Buy Baby (around $100).
  • Check out wayfair.com! We ordered the entire nursery collection there and it was under $1k, but you can buy the pieces separately. We got a mattress at Walmart.
Since you don't have a crib or mattress, you probably don't have the crib bedding. Even though you didn't mention it - I would recommend not getting it. We did, and it's such a waste of money. The only part we really use are the sheets, but the quality is crap so you may as well save $200 and get better quality sheets.
  • We got the Graco Lauren for about $150 and the mattress for about $50. Wal-Mart.com had a deal at the time when you saved $20 if you bought them together. It might still be happening. C

  • Check out walmart's cribs. They have a great selection. And very affordable! We got this mattress and have been really happy with it. Got great reviews on amazon: https://mobile.walmart.com/m/phoenix;jsessionid=38BBAA9317BF30B3996B9A2C18F45C19#ip/Safety-1St-Crib-Toddler-Mattress/9864293?type=search
  • sealy soybean foam mattress from amazon - $110
burlington coat factory crib - $130

We didn't want to spend alot on the crib and I think convertible cribs are a waste of money because we want #2 soon and plan on using the same crib.
