Random questions about scrubs

In the post below about gifts for DH, one of the ladies mentioned buying scrubs for her husband to wear at the hospital. I thought that was a great idea, although not because I want to do "I'm the Daddy" or something like that. My husband is tall and skinny, so things made in generic sizes that are tall enough for him tend to fall off and look ginormous on his slender frame. I thought it would be nice to give him some that actually fit and I know he'd wear the pants later as pajama pants. But my question is twofold -- (a) do the dads actually wear scrubs during labor? I really have no clue. And (b) if they do, do you think they'll actually let him wear ones that I bring from home? Should I call the hospital and check? Will they think I'm completely nuts, ha?

Never seen or heard men wearing scrubs. I know they wear a gown and mask if you have a c section.

You could always start a trend though! Lol scrubs are super comfy... Id try it out.

Yes, dad can wear them during labor. They're very comfy (coming from a nurse.) They most likely will still give you hospital issued ones for him to wear if you had to have a c-section. Otherwise, the ones you bring from home he should be able to wear throughout the whole process.

I saw a pic on FB of one of my husband's best friends during the birth of his son -- he was wearing scrubs, and it was at the same hospital where I'll be delivering. But come to think of it, his GF ended up having a c-section, so that's probably why he was wearing them.

ETA: It was 2 weeks ago, so they were actually in the hospital the last time I was in the L&D triage. We didn't get to see them, though. Just wasn't the right timing.

At my hospital, fathers can wear whatever they want*, unless you have a c-section, and then they have to wear the hospital provided attire (scrubs, hat, etc). So my DH will just bring his everyday comfy clothes. He's also the kind of guy who would feel silly in scrubs though.

*as long as their junk is covered. At least swim trunks/ gym shorts are required if they want to get into the tub with mom during labor because "we support natural birth here, but not that natural." Lol.

DH wore his regular clothes so if your husband chooses to wear scrubs I don't think it is a problem and could make duper cute pictures. With a c section I'm not sure you get scrubs or a coverall thing at my hospital but then they have required attire.

DH didn't have to wear scrubs for my delivery. He was just in regular street clothes. I'd imagine the only time that scrubs would be required is during a c-section.

DH wore them for my C-section. They were from the hospital. While I was pushing (pre-C) he wore just regular clothes. So I don't think it would be a problem if he wore scrubs in delivery unless they want hospital scrubs if there's a c-section.

What I do love is that the nurses stamped her feet, stamped the birth certificate, and stamped the pocket on his scrubs. He cut out then pocket and framed those little feet!

It might get confusing for hospital staff (if any are new) and also for other dads and visitors, especially if the hospital has a loose policy on color of scrubs. If they're clearly Daddy scrubs, that's different. 

My husband is plain and picky about his clothing. I took a t-shirt from a new pack he bought recently and plan on doing something like the "I'm the Daddy" shirts with it. It'll be a Christmas gift and then get packed in the hospital bag so he doesn't forget it.

Mine will probably wear scrub pants for comfort but he works at the hospital so he'll probably wear a tshirt on top to avoid confusion. He likes them for sleeping when he's not comfortable in just boxers.

XH didn't wear them during delivery, he didn't wear a gown either. C-Sections were different though.

Some hospitals will give dad scrubs to change into if you go for a csection. Where I work the dad gets a white disposable jump suit to  that goes over the clothes. I have only seen one father who had scrubs that said I am the daddy on them and he wore those while the wife labored.

@benjaminsmommy16, it's not his height that is the issue -- the problem is that he's super tall (6'5.5") and super thin (180lbs). He typically wears a Large Tall, but that's actually far too bulky on him. He needs an Extra Tall Medium, but stores don't make that size.

But it's a moot point anyway, because if scrubs aren't normal attire for delivery then he'll just wear his own clothes. I just really didn't know if dads typically wore scrubs, haha. I've never done it and the most recent dad I saw was wearing them. But since his GF had a c-section, I'm pretty sure that's why.

Yeah I doubt a hospital would let you wear scrubs from home if you ended up with a c/s.  They have a special way of laundering scrubs to meet cleanliness standards.  He won't need to wear scrubs in your room if you have a normal vaginal delivery.

But JIC...if you do have a c/s...they usually keep Tall sizes in the surgical scrubs  

@MarBee1214 -- that's good to know. I always worry about him for this kind of stuff because he gets so self conscious for some reason.

We live in an area with several major hospital networks so there's a scrubs store nearby called Scrubs & Beyond.  My SO bought a pair for fun a couple of years ago and love to wear them as PJs. I wanted to get him the novelty one that says "I'm the Daddy" but he'd prefer the plain regular green surgical kind. I don't think the hospital I'll be delivering at would mind if he wore them, but if I have to get a c/s he'll wear whatever they ask him to.
