We are having a baby girl, and I am so stuck on names! We have a little boy named Carter who will be 21 months when she is born. Middle names are family names. Our last name is pronounced like Hyatt, but is spelled differently. Just wanted to get some feedback on people's favorites!

  • I love Caroline!

I don't think it's too close to Carter. I suppose they look somewhat similar on paper since they both start with Car--, but they really don't sound much alike at all.

  • I really like Addison June - nn Addie or if she's a tomboy, A.J.  Cute.

Don't worry, I'm working on it.

  • I love the name Caroline!
I also really like Addison, I used to work with a girl named Addie Jane which I thought was so cute.
  • I like Ella. I really dislike Addison and while I don't think Caroline is too close, I personally just don't like same letter sibs.

Agreed with all of this. Carter and Ella is a super cute sibset though!

  • I think Ella Kathryn has the best flow, but Ella is so popular that most people on this board turn it down. I love the name Caroline and the mn June, but not with the fn/mn combos you have listed.

  • Thanks guys! It's so hard to decide. I know Ella/Ellie is popular, but it only bothers me a little bit. As someone who had had to spell my name for people my whole life, I prefer names that are not very unusual. Also it seems like the most common argument against popular names is the whole "having 5 kids in the same class with the same name", and as a teacher, it doesn't seem to happen that much. Plus, my first year teaching I had two boys named Quinten in class, so it could happen with any name!

It surprised me that so many people dislike Addison/Addie, so that's good to know! I wonder if something like Adelaide would be better?

    I appreciate the feedback!!!

  • I voted for Caroline.  It's the most refreshing of your options and I don't think it's too close to Carter.  Ella is pretty too.  Based on the girls I've known in DD's age group, Addison is even more popular than Ella, and it's too masculine-sounding for me (I know a teenage boy named Addison; it's really just in the past decade or so it's shot up as a girl name).  According to the SSA, Ella is #12 and Addison is #14, so if the popularity of Ella is at all an issue for you, Addison is not far behind by more objective measures than Names Capulet is Sick of Hearing.

  • Caroline Leigh for sure- Leigh rather than Lee.

  • I agree that Leigh is the more feminine spelling, but my husband's mom's middle name was Lee spelled "Lee". She passed away before we met, so...the spelling isn't really negotiable for him, and I agree that it's a nice tribute to her. :)

  • Ella or Caroline.

I hate Addison.  It reminds me of that ADHD medicine, Adderall. It also sounds like someone forgot to put the M on the front.
  • Just personal preference...I like the way Ellie sounds better. I like the more formal official first name though. :)

  • I love Carter and Caroline together!
