New to SA any thoughts to share with a newbie?

My husband has always been worried about his sperm. He had some issues when he was younger and went to the Dr. and I guess it was all worked out.

He asked his dr about his testosterone levels a couple years ago but the dr said they were in normal levels. I did some reading up onit and it asounds like a good portion of Dr's don't do it right? Well DH felt he was fine and never asked for a specialist.

Now he is worried again and said when he has his yearly checkup he will get a SA. Can that be done in a normal physicians office? I thought they needed to go to a specialist for that.

I am thrilled that he finally has the cconfidence to get checked out but I am worried he will be told he needs to see a specialist and that will be the end of it. Any suggestions or advice from the wife side of it?
Edited for clarification

Re: New to SA any thoughts to share with a newbie?

  • Yes, my husband had to go to an RE to get it tested (or a urologist). We went to a lab recommended by my OBGYN. After we got the results, all three numbers were low, and we went through a whirlwind and found ourselves right at the door of IVF with ICSI. We took a step back to breathe and went to a urologist that specialized in male infertility. I feel like that gave us a good perspective, although many people since have said that my husband unnecessary surgery to treat his issues.

That's probably more information than you wanted, but long story short - my suggestion would be to see a urologist that specializes in male infertility! My RE specifically said that he would do nothing to even consider treating the cause of my husband's issues. You have to get all of the information you can and make a decision that is best for your family.
