Trouble TTC

PCOS and ovulation pains: Advice?

My right ovary seems to have slight pain around ovulation (or randomly, which I hypothesize is my body gearing up for ovulation and failing based on CM trends/BBT).  Does anyone have any advice from their RE on that?  I've read that it can happen with ovulation, but I also read that it can also happen with PCOS when creating cysts instead.  I did have a cyst burst once, and it built up to a sharp pain... but that hasn't happened in a few years.  Can you get cysts AND have a mature egg at the same time?  I had some pains last week (ovulation fail, it seems), and I'm having some again today/yesterday.

Also, I only get these pains in my right ovary every month. I was also only polycystic in that ovary according to the Ultrasound.  Could there be something wrong with the left one???

I want to ask my RE in a couple weeks, but I thought I'd get your advice since I'm hoping I'll be ovulating soon!!

Re: PCOS and ovulation pains: Advice?

  • I have more troubles with my right ovary too. Many times my ovary feels like it flutters and other times like someone has reached in and is having a good squeeze.  It doesn't seem to be related to my ovulation because I ovulate very rarely. I know I am not much help.

I get those pains on both sides, on and off through out my cycle (worst around ovulation).  It could be the added pressure of the folicles growing and you are not used to that.  That is what mine nornally is - the extra large overies not having any room and pushing on everything else.  While I have ended up with a cyst for two cycles, the pain isn't related to it (in fact, two months ago, I swore I had a cyst on righty only for the ultrasound to show that lefty had a cyst but righty was fine).  Unless you have a really sharp pain that is not helped by tylenol, my RE says that it is either ovulation or follicle growth pain.

  • @DreadGamerWife ..thanks!  It is good to know, even though it doesn't seem like I'm ovulating now in any other regard.  I wish my cycle was more regular, so I'd have more evidence!  Hopefully, my RE will be able to shed more light on the issue, but your input helps for now.

@rubysi... it's good to know I'm not the only one!  I've only noticed it in the last year since getting off the pill... I have them every now and then, but the 3 times I had a period since then, I've had the pains around ovulation time in addition to the other random times. That is why I'm thinking the other times are ovulation fails.  I will ask my RE to see if my medical assessment has any validity... I'm pretty sure I'll qualify for an honorary degree by the time this is all said and done :)
